2006 Radiothon a Success, Raising
$2.5 million!
The 17th
Annual WFAN Radiothon was a huge success raising $2.5 million thanks
to the generosity of all those who listened, pledged, and
volunteered to support the important work of the three benefiting
charities: CJ Foundation for SIDS, Tomorrows Childrens Fund, and
The Imus Ranch.
Heard
in more than 90 markets nationwide, the radio broadcast gave
listeners across the country the opportunity to learn more about the
three charities, hearing stories from families, patients, doctors
and child life specialists. Listeners heard just how much their
donations can help children and families in need.
Imus in the Morning
kicked off the Radiothon at 5:30 am on Thursday, followed by the Joe
Benigno Show. Mike Francesa and Chris Russos Mike and the Mad Dog
Show took over at 1:00 pm. Imus closed the Radiothon on Friday
mornings broadcast. The Radiothon was telecast on both MSNBC and
YES TV.
The CJ Foundation
would like to especially acknowledge our guests who offered their
time and shared their stories on the air. And a special note of
recognition to all the volunteers who, year after year, answer the
pledge phones taking donations throughout the entire Radiothon.

AAP REVISES
SIDS RECOMMENDATIONS
WASHINGTON, DC
-Despite major decreases in the incidence of Sudden Infant Death
Syndrome (SIDS) over the past decade, SIDS is still responsible for
more infant deaths beyond the newborn period in the United States
than any other cause of death during infancy. In an updated policy
statement on "The Changing Concept of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome:
Diagnostic Coding Shifts, Controversies Regarding the Sleeping
Environment, and New Variables to Consider in Reducing Risk," the
American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) addresses several issues that
have become relevant since they last published a statement in 2000.

The Sudden
Unexplained Death In Childhood (SUDC) Program
SUDC is the sudden and unexplained death of a child
after
their first birthday. It's definition is similar to SIDS,
except for the age parameters. SUDC is not new, but it is very
rare. Its incidence is approximately 1 death per 100,000
children. SIDS is 50 times more common.
The SUDC Program is a national program that provides
information and advocacy, promotes research into SUDC and
offers support services to affected families. It was created
in 2001, as a program of the CJ Foundation for SIDS. For more
information please go to http://www.sudc.org/
