We tested fuboTV and other live TV streaming services for more than 100 hours. fuboTV is compatible with Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Google Chromecast, Roku, Web Browsers, iPhone/iPad, Android Phone/Tablet, Android TV, and Samsung Smart TV.

Features

30 hours Cloud DVR

fuboTV includes a cloud DVR, but it can only store 30 hours (no expiration) — which is less than most services. They recently added support for series recording, meaning the DVR will record all new episodes of a series automatically.

Even if you start recording something after it has started, fuboTV will helpfully include the entire episode. Generally, recordings will not auto-extend if the show runs past the scheduled time.

You can skip commercials on recorded shows.

You can upgrade to their “Advanced DVR” which includes 500 hours (never expiring) for $10/month.

Up to 2 Devices

This service allows for two simultaneous streams (among TV devices, smartphones, tablets, and computers).

You can add a third stream for $5.99/month.

51 TV Everywhere Apps

Similar to traditional cable and satellite subscriptions, fuboTV includes “TV Everywhere” logins for various channels’ apps (including NBC App, FOX Now, Bravo Now, E! Now, Fox Sports Go, and NBC Sports App).

Lookback Feature

Lookback lets you to watch sports and entertainment shows that aired in the previous three days that aren’t available on demand. Some of these shows allow you to skip commercials.

beIn Sports Feature

With your fuboTV account you get access to beIn Sports and their beIn Sports Connect TV Everywhere app.

Sling TV and PlayStation Vue are the only other services that offer this channel, but not in their base plan.

Phone & Tablet Apps

The fuboTV mobile apps have various tabs:

Sports: a list of live and on demand sports events.
Entertainment: available channels and on demand content.
Guide: a standard channel guide that is easy to browse.
My DVR: all of your recorded content.

While you browse through the iOS app, a live PIP of your previous channel continues to play so you don’t miss anything. Unlike some of the other services, you always have to go back to the channel guide to switch channels, which makes it difficult to channel surf.

They recently updated their iOS and Android apps to match the new interface of their Apple TV and Roku apps.

TV App

The Apple TV and Roku apps are well designed and include an easy way to browse live sporting events, on demand TV shows and movies, and a standard channel guide.

Oddly, there is no way to search except on Apple TV (which is a bit slow). This limitation makes it clunky to find on demand content.

They have a more basic Fire TV app which matches their old interface of their mobile apps. It does allow you to watch all live, on demand, and recorded content. We expect them to update this to match the new interface.

You can watch fuboTV on Mac or Windows computers with any popular browser.

fuboTV offers a base “fubo” ($55) plan and multiple add-ons, including fubo Extra ($6).

fubo Extra add-on includes about 32 channels, but does not include any additional locals, top 35 cable channels, national sports channels, or RSNs. Some of the included channels include Baby TV, BBC World News, Boomerang, Cooking Channel, DIY, GSN, INSP, PeopleTV, Revolt, and Sony Movie Channel.

Local Channels

In most markets, fubo offers CBS, Fox, NBC, Telemundo, The CW, and Univision. They don’t offer ABC in any market.

If they don’t offer a local channel in your market, you will still have access to the channel’s on demand content.

fuboTV includes most national sports channels like Fox Sports 1, Fox Sports 2, NBC Sports Network, TBS, and TNT, but they don’t offer ESPN and ESPN2.

fuboTV gives access to regional sports networks (RSNs), which are generally from Fox Sports and NBC Sports.

Playback

While watching a live show, you can pause, rewind, and fast-forward live TV. On iOS devices, when you close live TV playback, the video will go into a picture-in-picture (PIP) window while you browse through the fuboTV app.
