Congratulations to +AMD who, according to one Linux reviewer, have managed to have their open source (RadeonSI OpenGL) drivers for Vega out-perform the closed source driver with a flagship GPU on launch-day. This is great news to open source enthusiasts and distributions such as Gentoo who wield the power of the source.

We are looking forward to AMD mainlining the AMDGPU display code, RADV Vulkan driver improvements, and seeing major companies push for open source drivers in the years to come.

KDE Plasma 4 has reached end of life in Portage. Upstream dropped support on 2015-08-19, no security bugs have been fixed since. It is therefore required for all users to upgrade to KDE Plasma 5.

KDM is being removed as well. Upstream recommends x11-misc/sddm instead which is pulled in by plasma-meta by default. OpenRC users edit /etc/conf.d/xdm and update DISPLAYMANAGER. Systemd users run: systemctl reenable sddm.service

Part of the cleanup will also be the KDE desktop profile, which is superseded by the Plasma desktop profile. Please follow the detailed upgrade guide.[1]
KDE Plasma 4.11 packages will be moved to kde-sunset overlay.[2]
