Turkish garment workers earn just a quarter of a living wage
New research by CCC Turkey shows the urgent need for a living wage for garment workers as the legal minimum wage covers only one quarter of what is needed for essentials. 1,5 million workers in Turkey make garments for many global fashion brands, including: Adidas, Banana Republic, Benetton, Boohoo, C&A, Esprit, GAP, G-star, Hugo Boss, H&M, Inditex – Zara, Levi’s, Marks & Spencer, Next, Nike, Puma, Primark, Urban Outfitters, and VF.

After months of worker protests and campaigning by activists internationally, Victoria's Secret has provided financing for the Brillant Alliance Thai Global workers who made their lingerie, to receive the full $8.3 million in severance they were owed.

Levis and IKEA are still putting their factory workers' lives at risk nine years later
May 15th marks nine years since the signing of the Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh. So far, the trailblazing, legally binding agreement has protected over two million garment workers by making sure 1,600 factories in Bangladesh meet safety requirements, but Levis and IKEA refuse to sign.

Adidas is stealing from its workers.
Textile workers in Cambodia who produced garments for adidas, among other brands, were deprived of an estimated $109 million (USD) in wages in April-May 2021 alone, according to a comprehensive inventory by unions in 114 factories. adidas is linked to the largest wage theft in the factory sample despite high profits during the pandemic.

More than 220 civil society and trade union organisations call on EU to end corporate abuse
On 23 February 2022, the European Commission released its proposal for a directive on Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence. This directive could represent a landmark step forward in minimising the negative impacts of businesses on workers, communities and the environment worldwide. In response, over 220 NGOs and trade unions from around the world welcome the proposal as an essential and long-awaited step toward corporate accountability, but call for the proposal tobe strengthened to end corporate harm to human rights, the environment and climate.

Nine years since Rana Plaza, IKEA and Levi's are freeriding on efforts to make factories safe
Nine years ago, on 24 April 2013, the Rana Plaza building in Bangladesh collapsed, killing 1,138 people and exposing the incredibly unsafe labour conditions for factory workers in the garment sector. Today our thoughts are with all those that had to live through this terrible, preventable tragedy, as well as with the families of those who did not survive.
