Hachette, which has not made e-books available to libraries since 2010, is reconsidering the idea. In a pilot program starting this spring, the publisher is working with two e-book distributors to bring a "selection of HBG's recent bestselling e-books to 7 million library patrons."

My deepest apologies to those of you who didn't take to my diction yesterday in the galley guide post. Truly wasn't aiming to get a rise out of anyone. This is a term I have heard other librarians apply to themselves to express their extreme passion for pulp, be it tangible or electronic. Clearly, not for all of you. That’s right folks, Amazon.com is announcing that in a few weeks all seven Harry Potter e-Books will be available from the Kindle Owner’s Lending Library (KOLL), a service that’s part of a subscription to Amazon Prime that also includes two day shipping, streaming video, etc.

More pernicious in Pennsylvania: See May 10 Philadelphia Inquirer editorial page for a discussion on the "consolidation" of the two Regional Library's for the Blind, one in Pittsburgh and one in Philly. The one in Philly is being closed and... its collection shifted to the Pittsburgh site, even though 60% of the total borrowing is done at the Philadelphia Library. Appears that the consolidation was the recommendation from a 2010 study by an individual or firm that had no experience in services for the blind. Already demonstrated is that the consolidation will not only not save money but will cost more to run because of the higher cost/person of running this service from the Pittsburgh location.See More
