| The european
consortium for political research was formed in 1970 by representatives
of 8 political science institutions in Europe. The membership has now grown
to over 230 universities, research and teaching institutions in Europe
and (associate members) elsewhere, and provides the centre for a network
of about 5,000 political scientists. Its administrative base is housed
within the Department
of Government at the University of Essex.
The main aim of the ECPR is to provide a strong base and an infrastructure to help scholars in their research, particularly by fostering collaboration through creating an extensive network of political scientists in Europe - and beyond. Activities include: organising workshops, round-tables, conferences, and summer schools, publishing journals, books, articles, and newsletters. In short, by creating the infrastructure essential for comparative research and cross-national cooperation. The ECPR has close links with similar organisations such as the European Political Science Association, the American Political Science Association (APSA), the Political Studies Association of the UK, other national associations and the International Political Science Association (IPSA). |
