Back From The Dead!!
It's a new month, so we're resurrecting the IGN Cars Mailbag. We know that you missed reading all the hate mail and unabashed praise we get 'round these parts, so we got off our lazy asses and put some new letters up for your reading enjoyment. If you want your voice heard, be sure to write in so that we can make snarky remarks about you and post them on the web!
Drive the Bugatti!
you guys should do some reviews on the bugatti veyron..maybe do a video review of it..like top gear did..do u guys watch top gear of the bbc channel?
-azrie
You actually think that Bugatti would lend us the keys to its million-dollar car? Wow! Thanks for the vote of confidence! That really makes our day when people think we're like... important and stuff!
If Bugatti ever did let us get near the Veyron, we'd be all over it like frat guys on a passed out co-ed. The Bugatti is the ultimate car right now, and we really want to take one for a spin.
We do check out Top Gear from time to time, but we prefer Fifth Gear. Tiff is the man!
-Justin
More Top Gear!
I was wondering if you guys have ever seen or heard of the British show Top Gear? An edited version was on the Discovery Channel awhile back but i dont think its on there anymore. Anyway its a really good show, they aren't always on top of the tuner market but the production is great and they feature some pretty sweet cars. I just can't seem to find much of it here in America.
-Andrew
As we mentioned in the previous letter, we are more into Fifth Gear. We do like Top Gear, even though it's hosted by the guy from Brainiac. Why can't U.S.-made car shows be as good as the ones from England? The car is a huge part of Americana, right? So why do the Brits know what makes a better (and more entertaining) car program. We just don't get it...
Our recommendation: watch both shows! They're on at different times, so you have no excuse for missing them!

Needs a New Truck.
Hey, I have really enjoyed your recent updates but this is a bit of a different area than which you usually cover.
I am 6'5" and 220lbs, so I am not a small guy by any means. I have drove my 91' Ford F150 for a long time and need a new vehicle.
I am looking for an '05 or '06, and I want another Truck or an SUV. In my business I do alot of driving so I need more than 10 miles to the gallon.
I was wondering if you had any good suggestions of nice looking vehicles. What I picture in my head, is a Black on black SUV with heavy tinted windows and silver trim with some 18"-20" on it.
Cars I have looked at are the Nissan Murano, Ford F150, Jeep Grand Cherokee for the most part.
Any suggestions?
-Bill
Well Bill, you're right in assuming that this is out of the norm for us, but we'll help you out as best we can.
You didn't mention if you needed the cargo/towing capacity of a "real" SUV. If you need to tow/haul stuff, that's going to render our following recommendations useless. We also don't know the price range you are looking at, so we'll just throw some pricier hybrids in for good measure.
If you can afford the extra cash (and if fuel economy is the most important thing for you), you should check out the Toyota Highlander Hybrid or the Lexus RX400h. The Lexus is nice, but pretty damn expensive. You can pick up a 4x2 Highlander Hybrid for about $33,000.
Of the three choices you mentioned, the Murano gets the best Mileage. It gets a claimed 20/25 mpg compared to the F-150's 16/20 mpg or the Cherokee's 17/22 mpg. All vehicles listed were 2-wheel drive versions equipped with the V6 engine. We got all of these ratings from www.FuelEconcomy.gov
At the end of the day though, you should drive all of the SUVs and see which one you like best. You may hop in the Highlander and hate it while you end up loving the Jeep. It's all about knowing what your needs are and finding the vehicle that fits you best.
Hope that helps.

Good For a Laugh.
I own an SRT-4 and its probably the least comfortable produciton car you can get. You guys are good for a laugh. You lost that entire argument so just stop before you lose all credibility.
-Dom
OMG!! Is this Dom Delouise? We totally loved you in Cannonball Run! While we love the "CR" (as we call Cannonball Run), we have to disagree with you, buddy. While we never said that the SRT-4 boasted Lexus-like comfort, we are actually pretty damn comfortable in that car. We love the seats, but then we aren't obese bastards, so we can actually fit in them.
Also, have you actually driven the new Eclipse? We're guessing that you are contesting our statement that the SRT-4 is more comfortable than Mitsubishi's new ride... Well, hop in both of those cars, form your own opinion and tell us what you think. If you like the Eclipse more than the SRT-4, well then, more power to you! We're guessing that you may like the Eclipse, as the seats are wide so that they can accomodate fat Americans.
Either way, our arguement stands as it's based on our opinion. We're not changing our opinion just becuase you don't agree with us. So in a way, we still maintain our credibility while you come off as an internet cry-baby.
But Dom, please don't hate us. We can't wait to see the next Cannonball movie. Please do it for Burt, as we don't want to see him in any more Uwe Boll movies!

What's Wrong With You People?
How can you call yourself a car website and have absolutely zero coverage of the Detroit Austo Show? Its only the biggest auto show in the world. What the hell is wrong with you people?
-Chris
Do you want to shell out money so that we can go to Detroit? Sorry, but we're not spending our own hard-earned cash to go hang out in Detroit in the middle of winter... We live in Los Angeles; we can't handle temperatures below 65 degrees. Just like the rest of the world, we'll be enjoying the friuts of the Detroit show from the warm glow of our computer monitor.
