THYMOS

THE JOURNAL OF BOYHOOD STUDIES

"Has anyone seen the boy?"
Rumi (1207-1273)

"He who sees in the boy shadow'd forth his own case,
Should be on his guard 'gainst the fox's whole race"
Goethe, 1776

"Small sciences are the labours of our manhood
But the round universe is the plaything of the boy"
Walter Bagehot, 1856

THYMOS, ΘΥΜΟΣ, is ancient Greek for the astral, animal soul, the "human heart" (Pascal), and spiritedness. It is sometimes full of righteous anger, even rage and frenzy. Like boyhood and its features, the organ in our body called the thymus will have largely vanished at the advent of adulthood.

Thymos / Journal of Boyhood Studies is a new peer reviewed e-journal initiative.
