Morning Gas 5:58 PST | Pappy-R | Print News | Category: Community NewsHappy turkey day to my fellow Canuckians! We bought a brand new roasting pan and a big old bird for the occasion, but the weather is going to be unseasonably warm, so we've opted for steaks on the BBQ. That means it's dark meat for everyone and first person to ask for a drumstick is going to get a slap upside the melon with a still frozen 20 pound bird.
We kicked off a prize round for the movie quotes yesterday to a very scary showing. I thought I might be having mail issues due to the tardy start and low yield of entries, but I've heard no complaints so it must be kool. Yesterdays quote was from "Dead Ringers" and only three got it correct! First in for three was Nire with Crimson Pig scoring two for Second and Professormacke coming in late for Third. GG all! Our secret theme is worth three bonus points, so solve it if you can as well! GL, HF!
Our super secret movie theme for the week is "**** **** * ***f*".
Movie Quote:"Congratulations. You are still alive. Most people are so ungrateful to be alive. But not you. Not anymore."Name that flick!

Morning Gas 4:56 PST | Pappy-R | Print News | Category: Community NewsI played QUAKE Wars so much yesterday my hands were, and still are a bit sore. I've not played this hard and long for quite some time, and it's a compliment to the game. It's so tense and fast paced I can't seem to pull myself free. I've landed on my favourite class and I even have a favourite vehicle, the Desecrator tank! Gimme one of those in my Strogg Constructor class and I'll beat down those GDF meat-sacks all day long! Well maybe not all day long today, the hands are still rebelling a bit.
Yesterdays quote from "Proof" stumped more of you than any quote in quite a while! The only two to get it correct were Nire and Professormacke, so they'll close out the week in style. GG all! Now here are the tops scores for the round. Cya tomorrow!
On the server front, we've now released stable server builds for the demo and the retail release. There are over 1,300 servers running the Linux version already (more than Windows in fact) so as a Linux proponent myself, I'm really pleased with its popularity.
I've also been making steady progress with the Linux Client, and it's coming along really well. We've been running a closed-beta test for 'friends and family' for a little while, and for the past couple of weeks have had a fully functional version of the demo running. The closed-beta testers are now able to play alongside Windows players on the same version, with full Punkbuster support. The major systems including the renderer and audio are working great, and performance has been good on both the NVIDIA and ATI graphics cards.
Timothee's focus now is on optimization for the Linux Client. Watch for a release in the next few weeks.

New Q3 Deathmatch Map 6:02 PST | jube | Print News | Category: Quake III Arena NewsThere's a new Quake 3 FFA/Tourney map available from dONKEY in the Map-Center Forum, just in time for some weekend fragging. The level still needs a bit of cosmetic work apparently, but that's why they call it a beta release! There's still time to leave your feedback before the map hits final status.
QuakeWorld's Frogbot Goes Open Source 6:02 PST | jube | Print News | Category: Quake NewsQuakeworld.nu spreads the word that Frogbot by Robert 'Frog' Field is going to be released as open source under the GPL. All versions of the popular mod are now open to modders so that they may integrate Frogbot into their projects, and improve on or update the mod itself.
Morning Gas 5:59 PST | Pappy-R | Print News | Category: Community NewsI had a nice scare yesterday. I wanted to upgrade the video drivers in my game rig, so grabbed the newest, bestest ones and uninstalled my current NVIDIA drivers. This included my networking and more since I had NVIDIA chipsets on my mobo, except I wasn't paying attention. Long story short, I had no drivers, no network, no original install discs and no discs to burn on any of my five freaking burners. Then I remembered a writable disc that Marauder gave me with the machine's original benchmarks. There was lots of room on that so I burned up a savior disc and got everything kicking again. The end result is better performance in QUAKE Wars and a lesson in paying attention to those little pop-ups during uninstalls.
Yesterdays quote from "Bubble Boy" didn't make anyone stumble and the battle for the points was tense. First in for three was that Nire guy with Crimson Pig rolling in Second and Professormacke taking Third. We'll end "Jake Gyllenhaal" week with today's quote. GL, HF!
Movie Quote:"Ok, yes. I play the drums. You wanna come? I never sing, I swear to God."Name that flick!
