Shacknews has obtained the PC system requirement specifications from Treyarch concerning Call of Duty: World at War. Check them out:
Developer Treyarch has released the system requirements for the PC version of its World War II shooter Call of Duty: World at War, which hits retailers on November 11 alongside the PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii and Nintendo DS versions.

Processor: AMD 64 3200+/Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHz or better
Memory: 8 GB free hard-drive space, 512MB RAM (XP)/1GB RAM (Vista)
Graphics: Shader 3.0 or better, 256MB Nvidia GeForce 6600GT/ATI Radeon 1600XT or better

While Treyarch was provided with the technology that powered Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, project lead Cesar Statsny GameSpot that the studio was "able to achieve this graphical intensity with only a modest bump in the minimum requirements from COD4."

GamePro Goes Hands-On with World at War  [ 1 Comment ]
13:00 PST | mattpruitt | Print News | Category: COD: World at War
GamePro has put up an article detailing their hands-on time with Call of Duty: World at War. Here's an excerpt:
Judging by our hands-on experiences with World at War, tanks seemed to be an enjoyable but not overwhelming addition to the otherwise classic Call of Duty multiplayer action. Crucially, the tank's cannon suffers from a sluggish firing rate and relatively small explosive radius, tradeoffs that enable infantry to sprint past safely in between volleys. If you want to be a true terror with the tank, you'll need to devote your Perks to upgrading the base speed and offensive power, though these sacrifices will leave you more vulnerable when on foot. And Call of Duty purists can relax, because tanks can be disabled via the match menu -- check a preference box and you'll automatically be redirected to infantry-only matches.

ModernRcon v0.8 Released  [ Comment ]
12:59 PST | mattpruitt | Print News | Category: Call of Duty 4
Josh from Call of Duty HQ has informed us that he's released v0.8 of his popular server utility, ModernRcon. Here's the changelist for this latest version:
  • Rcon Limiter tool for granting lesser Rcon access to friends and clan mates.
  • Fixes to PBUCON / Chat tab IP detection.
  • Significant security / encryption re-write, which requires you to FRESH INSTALL. I will reiterate; your old server list will alert you it is detecting tampering if you do not do a fresh install. You have to then remove those servers from your list, and re-add them from scratch. Sorry! but I figured v0.8 was more important than that minor inconvenience.
You can download it from our files section!

Activision Going After Pirates  [ Comment ]
7:20 PST | mattpruitt | Print News | Category: Call of Duty 3
When you think of pirates, you usually think of PC gaming (or "Argghh!" pirates). However, Edge-Online is reporting that Activision isn't just limiting it to that.
Activision is suing an alleged software pirate for up to $150,000 per offense, Edge has learned.

Court filings from late August say that the publisher of the hit Call of Duty series is suing James R. Strickland of New York for copyright infringement, an act which includes illegally copying and distribution of games.

The case revolves specifically around the Xbox 360 version of 2006's CoD3, but Activision also accuses Strickland of "copying and/or distributing" other unnamed copyrighted videogames. The firm said that it intends to amend the current complaint "to add additional acts of infringement."
Thanks to FPS Admin for the news.

New Call of Duty Blog  [ Comment ]
7:16 PST | mattpruitt | Print News | Category: COD: World at War
Josh Olin, Treyarch's community manager, has started up a new blog on our network. Here's an excerpt:
Ill start by telling you a little about myself, (I hope youll reciprocate in the Comments of this blog and tell me a bit about you too). My name is Josh JD Olin, and Im the Community Manager at Treyarch (thats me on the tank). I live in Santa Monica, California, but was born and raised in upstate New York. My favorite number is 2020, which is suggestive of my typical online screenname, JD_2020. I have been playing Call of Duty since its inception (pre-ordered CoD1) and have run several Call of Duty gaming communities over the years, which is actually how I got into the industry.

PSN Call of Duty 4 Week  [ Comment ]
13:58 PST | mattpruitt | Print News | Category: Call of Duty 4
Starting today (and going until the 25th), Infinity Ward is kicking off a full week of Call of Duty 4 promotions on the Playstation 3.
Starting with the #1 DLC on PSN, the Variety Map Pack, dropping to $4.99 all week long. In addition, youll be able to rack up double XP and rank up all weekend from Friday - Sunday. Im aiming to beat my personal best of 45 ranks in one weekend and aiming to rank up a over a full 55 ranks on PSN. Ill be partying up with a few of the IW crew on Friday from Noon - 4 pm (PT) to take advantage of the double XP.

No Day 1 DLC for World at War  [ Comment ]
8:42 PST | mattpruitt | Print News | Category: COD: World at War
The Treyarch team has posted up a new blog clearing up the whole "day 1 advantage" thing mentioned in the official release. Here's a snippet:
To begin, please note that Treyarch is putting every ounce of our effort into making the best game we have ever made with Call of Duty World at War, and we are putting absolutely all of the content we can onto the disc, while maintaining the highest quality possible. I can confirm there will not be any game DLC available on day 1, contrary to popular rumor.

We do of course intend to support the community with robust and high-quality DLC after release, which we will start working on as soon as we wrap up the game (and some of the guys take a hard-earned break!), and I am looking forward to giving you details on that as soon as I can.
You can read the full blog posting right here.
