Where are the wireless hotspots in the UL?

Wireless networking is available in the University Library in the following rooms:

  • West Room
  • Commonwealth Room
  • Munby Rare Books Reading Room
  • Manuscripts Reading Rooms
  • Tea Room
  • South Wing
  • Anderson Room
  • Map Room

Who can use the wireless network?

The wireless network available at the Library is the Lapwing wireless hot-spot facility run by the University Computing Service. The service is available to all current staff and students of the University of Cambridge, using a Raven password.  Other categories of Library user are welcome to use the wireless network.  For this they will require a 'Lapwing ticket', which is issued on request and valid for up to 60 days at a time.

How to get a wireless ticket?

If you would like access to be set up in advance, please e-mail it_services@lib.cam.ac.uk, quoting your library barcode if you have one already. Our staff will contact you with details of your Lapwing ticket, which will be valid for up to 60 days from the date you first require access.

How do I use the wireless network?

The Computing Service provides instructions on how to connect to the wireless network.

This service is run, managed and supported by the University Computing Service. Help and information about who to contact in case of difficulty is available on the Lapwing Help Page.
