Special Tee Shot (prototype)

Also known as: Kirby's Tee Shot [early title]
Profile Blogs Boards Guide FAQs Cheats Articles Images Videos

A miniature golf game, later retooled and released as Kirby's Dream Course. This version was a prototype / release candidate (later released in its original form on the Satellaview system). The game featured unique characters (a bouncing, moorphing red ball-head character) instead of the more familiar Kirby figures. Special Tee Shot also had different level layouts, and a significantly different game concept (instead of smashing all of the enemies on the stage, you simply shoot for the hole), and some other slight edits and additions were made by the time Kirby's Dream Course was finally released, but otherwise used very similar graphics and ball control.

This version was seen in print and on early SNES package backs (as a "high-tech golf course of the future!"), and the future Kirby-ized game even bore the name "Kirby's Tee Shot" in print coverage before the final revision. Nintendo never released Special Tee Shot in any nation (besides the 1996 Satellaview version in Japan), but at least one prototype version did somehow manage to wind up in the hands of a collector.
