Capcom PS1 and PSP games coming to the PSN

6:01 PM - - Image 0 Comments
According to a Joystiq interview with Capcom's Chris Kramer, Capcom is looking to bring quite a few PS1 and PSP titles to the PlayStation Network over the coming months. And you can bet that means a bunch of RE titles:
"We'll definitely be looking at a lot of titles that have things like Street Fighter and Resident Evil in the title," Kramer said. "We're thinking about putting together a long list of the titles we're looking at, and then releasing it on Capcom Unity and having people vote on them. Ultimately we're looking at bringing between 20 and 40 titles to the PSN over the next several months."
Since there is no Resident Evil game on the PSP, it is fairly obvious that means that we'll see classic PS1 games like RE1, 2, and 3 on the PlayStation Network. Especially since they've already been released on the Japanese PSN.

More new wiki pages added

1:58 PM - - Image 0 Comments
We've added a bunch of new pages to our Resident Evil wiki. This update focuses mostly on some Tyrants from Umbrella Chronicles, and some smaller characters from RE's early history:

  • Ivan - Sergei Vladimir's personal bodyguard Tyrants.
  • T-A.L.O.S. - Designed as a response to the Nemesis Tyrant, this experimental Tyrant was meant to be Umbrella's most powerful bioweapon.
  • Joseph Frost - Suffers a death early in the series.
  • Brad Vickers - Probably the worst member of the STARS response team. Leaves his teammates to die. Swell guy.

Some other articles have received some updates as well, so poke around. If we're missing anything that you'd like to know about, leave a comment on this news post and I'll do my best to write up an article for it.

New Poll - Resident Evil remake

11:11 AM - - Image 0 Comments
Since the Resident Evil remake on the Gamecube is coming to the Wii next month as Resident Evil Archives, I thought I'd post a new poll regarding remakes:

What Resident Evil remake would you like to see?

I've left out Resident Evil 0, 1, 4, and Outbreak 1 and 2, because those games were either created directly for the last generation of consoles or have been remade for them. For this poll, the only options are games that haven't received an actual full remake since the last generation of consoles. I'm guessing Resident Evil 3 is going to be the big winner here, but we'll see.

Now, let's see the results to our previous poll:

Albert Wesker - 160
17.19%
Jill Valentine - 151
16.22%
HUNK - 135
14.50%
That dog from RE4 - 129
13.86%
Rebecca Chambers - 105
11.28%
Chris Redfield - 104
11.17%
Barry Burton - 75
8.06%
Jack Krauser - 72
7.73%

Votes: 931

Albert Wesker is the winner here. Unfortunately, he'll only be appearing in Darkside Chronicles as part of a flashback, so we won't get to see more of his adventures for a while. In second place is Jill, which makes a lot of sense, as there are many unanswered questions about where she has been/what she has done over the years. Hopefully we get the answers eventually!

Grab the RE5 theme

1:17 PM - - Image 4 Comments
Want to listen to the RE5 theme without loading up the game? This page on Capcom's Japanese site is serving up the song (in .m4a form) for those who want to grab it.

The free download is entitled BIOHAZARD 5 ~ Theme Song ~ Vocal Less Version, and clocks in at about 3 minutes and 20 second of length. It is also pretty good, so it should be worth your time to give it a listen.

New Featured Wiki Article: The Mercenaries

1:33 AM - - Image 0 Comments
We've updated our featured wiki article once again, this time showcasing our The Mercenaries page, which focuses on the Mercenaries game mode from Resident Evil 3, 4, and 5.

Image

Site editor DarkBlood999 has been hard at work creating individual wiki sections for the RE4 and RE5 Mercs mode, so be sure to check out the main Mercenaries page linked above, and then spread out to each game's Mercs page. These pages cover everything from an overview of the game mode to strategies, character details, level information, and more.

RE5 and 3D Vision

1:13 AM - - Image 0 Comments
If you read about the Resident Evil 5 PC announcement, you probably noticed the news that the port would support nVidia's Geforce 3D Vision technology. And if you're like me, you probably wondered just what that 3D Vision stuff was. If that is the case, stop by this article, which I've written up to give a brief intro to the technology, how it works, and what it does.

Image

Bottom line is the technology actually does allow you to play your games in impressive 3D, but only if you have the hardware necessary to do it. And it isn't cheap. For more information, check out the article. And if you've actually tried out 3D Vision before, leave your impressions in the comments section!

RE5 Map Upgraded

2:39 PM - - Image 0 Comments
The technical wizards at IGN have worked their magic on our Interactive RE5 Map, upgrading it with some awesome new technology.

Now when you submit a marker (or view existing ones), you can select three different options on the side: Original Story, Mercenaries, and Versus. This allows us to display the Mercenaries markers on the existing map without getting in the way of the main story's markers. So if you want to see where all the treasures are in the single-player game, hit original story. Or if you want to see where items/time bonuses are in the Mercs modes, hit the Mercenaries option and it'll display on markers approved for that mode!

RE5 coming to the PC

1:43 PM - - Image 0 Comments
According to this news over at GameSpy, Capcom has finally lifted the shroud off one of their worst kept secrets ever to unveil that Resident Evil 5 will be coming to the PC sometime this year.

While PC developer CD Projekt had previously announced they were porting the game, the surprise here is that the PC port of Resident Evil 5 will support nVidia's new GeForce 3D vision technology, which allows you to play the game in 3D if you have the proper hardware (and 3D glasses). Not too shabby!

Oh, and in case you were wondering...DX9 and DX10 support, as well as full keyboard and mouse support.

New Darkside Chronicles blog update

7:18 AM - - Image 0 Comments
Capcom has updated the official blog for the Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles website. In this entry, Yasuhiro Seto (the game's director) talks about bringing horror back into the game, something he feels the last game was missing. Here is a snippet:
The camera was the first thing that we worked on. The viewpoint of a person who is surrounded by horror and wrapped in tension is not steady like a movie camera, but rather moves quite violently. In order to convey that tension and sense of presence more effectively, in certain places we used a camera that really moves as if it were attached to a person’s face.
The last few RE games have sort of removed the horror aspect from the series, so it is really interesting to see Darkside Chronicles go back to this. Even though it is an on-rails shooter, the game seems to go back to the series' roots.

Our Resident Evil 5 weapons wiki page is now complete! Today we entered the last four machine guns, so now every weapon has its own page and details.

The main index page gives you some information about every gun as well as each weapon's maxed stats, which each weapon's individual page gives further details and tips, along with a detailed chart that covers the entire upgrade process for each weapon. So if you're wondering what the best shotgun is or what weapons are the best for piercing, check out the wiki!

Microsoft's Zombie Contest

2:12 PM - - Image 0 Comments
If you have RE5 on the Xbox 360, you might want to try your hand at winning some prizes in Microsoft's Experience Zombie and Infected contest. Winners can grab prizes that include limited edition RE5 consoles, Zunes, Microsoft points, free games, and more.

Participating seems easy enough. You just download the GamerPic pack here, and then get an entry point by either downloading some zombie themed game content (like RE5 Versus mode), a zombie-themed movie, or playing one of three games on Live, including Resident Evil 5. So basically, if you play Mercenaries or Versus mode online anytime before May 4th, you're entered to win.

GameTrailers Darkside Chronicles interview

1:58 AM - - Image 0 Comments
GameTrailers has a Darkside Chronicles interview with Masachika Kawata, the game's producer, available right here. The interview doesn't give away any plot details or anything, but instead talks about the game, the setting, and how it differs from Umbrella Chronicles.

Image

This game is really sounding like a love letter to Resident Evil 2. Even the musical score is a remixed/re-arranged version of RE2's music!
