TGIF: This Game is Free #3: Peggle WoW Edition

By Anthony Gallegos | News | Jul 10, 2009 2:06 PM | Comment

Ok, so you've probably heard of Peggle, but maybe, just maybe you're one of those few who haven't tried it for whatever reason. While there are other free trials of Peggle out there, none of them are quite like the WoW Edition. It lets you play through 10 WoW-inspired levels (mostly painted backdrops with the inclusion of little bits of WoW fan service), throw down against a friend or a computer player in duels, or even play challenge levels.

Flintlocke vs. The Horde: Request Denied

By Dave 'Fargo' Kosak | PC Flintlocke vs. The Horde | Jul 10, 2009 12:55 PM | Comment

Looks like that's a "no."

The Flintlocke saga continues in Flintlocke vs. The Horde, the follow-up to GameSpy's original World of Warcraft webcomic. Prepare for action, drama, l33t drops and funny accents, though probably not in that order. Read More »

Videogame Message Board Reaction Chart

By Brian Altano & Brian Miggels | Humor | Jul 10, 2009 8:00 AM | Comment

It seems like a great idea on paper: a giant collective of gaming enthusiasts coming together to discuss their beloved hobby. But sadly, videogame message boards aren't on paper, and thus things never, ever end well. Are there morals to be learned from a community of immorality? Probably not, and PC gamers should just stay away from all the madness either way. Read More »

WoW, is that a Big Drop in Subscribers?

By Bryn Williams | PC News | Jul 10, 2009 3:06 AM | Comment

An entry on Tobold's MMORPG Blog suggests that Blizzard's worldwide World of Warcraft subscriptions are currently somewhere in the region of five million versus the previous figure of 11 million.

According to the post this is directly linked to the fact the more than half of the game's total subscriptions are based in China. Chinese WoW servers have been offline now for roughly one month, while Blizzard is attempting to transfer the game's license from The9 to NetEase. Read More »

Modern Warfare 2: What's in a Name?

By Bryn Williams | Xbox 360 News | Jul 10, 2009 2:45 AM | Comment

News has hit the wire that Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2 has officially been renamed to include the Call of Duty franchise name. Concerns arose in past weeks that dropping the Call of Duty moniker from this year's biggest shooter release could lead to consumer confusion.

Apparently not wanting to take any risks, both Activision and Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling released information stating that the game will now officially be called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Read More »

The Consensus: Tales of Monkey Island: Episode 1 Review

By Ryan Scott | PC Reviews | Jul 9, 2009 7:41 PM | Comment

Monkey Island was the quintessential adventure game back in its day. The point-and-click escapades of Guybrush Threepwood, wannabe pirate, provided the narrative for a comedic tribute to Disneyland's Pirates of the Caribbean ride, and the triad of sequels that trailed it collectively earned the series the sort of immortal longevity that so few videogames enjoy. Okay, except maybe the fourth game, Escape from Monkey Island. That just sucked. Read More »

Jack Black Gets Brutal...er?

By Anthony Gallegos | Xbox 360 News | Jul 9, 2009 4:59 PM | Comment

Jack Black's voice is very distinct and works perfectly for the voice of Eddie, the metalhead hero of Brutal Legend. And while no one can say he's been anything less than great for the game's PR, it isn't entirely due to his being a comedian, but also to his extensive knowledge of how to be metal. Need proof? Check out the video on the other side... Read More »

The Consensus: Battlefield 1943 Review

By Anthony Gallegos | Xbox 360 Reviews | Jul 9, 2009 1:49 PM | Comment

Battlefield 1943 is one of those games that you tell stories about when you're standing around with your buddies. Yes, it is a downloadable game -- and therefore of smaller scope than developer DICE's other offerings in the franchise -- but it still provides four excellent levels that, along with several other small but important changes, deliver a streamlined and fulfilling Battlefield experience. Performance Anxiety on the Battlefield

By Bryn Williams | Xbox 360 News | Jul 9, 2009 5:53 AM | Comment

As we told you yesterday, EA and DICE launched the new downloadable shooter Battlefield 1943 on Xbox 360. Today the PlayStation 3 version is supposed to go live, too.

It would seem as though DICE and EA were not prepared for the levels of interest surrounding the game, however, and the past 24 hours have seen players not being able to log into the online servers. Read More »
