Create A Bulimic Avatar And Puke In Real Life!
Honey, does this avatar make me look fat? According to a study at RTI International, if you create an avatar that is slim and fit then it may encourage people to become healthier and more physically active in real life.

"Based on these preliminary results, it seems likely that virtual reality users may adjust their identity to be consistent with that of their avatars," said Elizabeth Dean, research survey methodologist at RTI and the study's lead author. "The public health urgency surrounding the issue of obesity means that any intervention that might possibly affect real-life health should be considered." Two avatars in Second LifeThe results showed that 80 percent of respondents who reported high levels of physical activity for their avatars reported participating in high levels of physical activity in their real lives.

Not just that, but if you create a Wizard you'll soon be shooting bolts of lightning out your finger tips.

L4D Gets A Crash Course With New DLC
Valve has announced that the next major DLC for Left 4 Dead, "Crash Course" is targeted for release in September. New single-player, multiplayer and co-op content for both the PC and 360, hands up, baby hands up!

"Crash Course" bridges the gap between the end of the "No Mercy" campaign and the beginning of "Death Toll" in the original game, expanding the game universe with new locations, new dialogue from the original cast, and an explosive finale

While containing both Survival maps and a Co-operative Campaign, the primary goal of "Crash" is to deliver a complete Versus mode experience in just 30 minutes, resulting in a streamlined version of the game's existing Versus campaigns. A recharge timer for infected teammates has also been added, and item spawn behavior has changed for more balanced gameplay.

"Since the release of Left 4 Dead last November, the design team has been excited about creating new experiences for this world and allowing players to do the same, by releasing much of our internal toolset, like the Survival Pack and Authoring Tools," said Gabe Newell. "We're working with the fans toward the ongoing entertainment value of the product."

Batman: Arkham Asylum Demo Friday
Sweet bat-mother of all things bat-holy! This Friday will see the release of a demo for Batman: Arkham Asylum. The demo will be offered on Xbox Live Marketplace for Xbox 360 and PlayStation Network for the PlayStation 3. Err, and PC please? Apparently you can score details on how to download the PC version of the demo on the Official Site, but I can't find said details. Sad panda.

The Batman: Arkham Asylum™ demo opens as the DARK KNIGHT and COMMISSIONER GORDON return The Joker back into confinement at ARKHAM ASYLUM. But things soon fall apart as THE JOKER gains the upper hand and springs a trap, setting Arkham Asylum’s occupants upon Batman. The demo offers gamers a taste of the fierce FreeFlow™ combat system, the cunning stealth of the Invisible Predator™ mechanic, and the feeling of becoming the WORLD’S GREATEST DETECTIVE as they navigate Arkham Asylum’s imposing Intensive Treatment facility. Players can unlock character bios, as well as get a sneak peak at some of the infamous foes that BATMAN will encounter within the cavernous and macabre confines of Arkham Asylum.

Featuring amazing graphics within an intense, immersive setting, Batman: Arkham Asylum™ exposes players to a unique, dark and atmospheric adventure that takes them to the depths of Arkham Asylum – Gotham City's psychiatric hospital for the criminally insane. Gamers will move in the shadows, instigate fear amongst their enemies, and confront The Joker and Gotham City's most notorious villains, including Harley Quinn, Bane, Killer Croc and Poison Ivy, and the newly revealed Scarecrow, who have taken over the asylum.

Exploding iPod, Apple Tries To Silence Owner
- 58 Comments
An 11 year old with an iPod got a little surprise recently when the unit made a hissing noise, then went pop! As you can see from the photo, the unit is quite the mess. To add insult to potential injury, apparently Apple wanted the father and daughter to sign a non-disclosure agreement just to receive a refund.

The Times has learnt that the company would offer the family a full refund only if they were willing to sign a settlement form. The proposed agreement left them open to legal action if they ever disclosed the terms of the settlement.

Ken Stanborough, 47, from Liverpool, dropped his 11-year-old daughter Ellie’s iPod Touch last month. “It made a hissing noise,” he said. “I could feel it getting hotter in my hand, and I thought I could see vapour”. Mr Stanborough said he threw the device out of his back door, where “within 30 seconds there was a pop, a big puff of smoke and it went 10ft in the air”.

Sweet, a RocketPod. Further to that...

Last week it emerged that Apple had tried to keep a number of cases where its iPod digital music players had started to smoke, burst into flames and even burned their owners, out of the public eye.

An American reporter obtained 800 pages of documentation on the cases from the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) following a Freedom of Information Act request in that country. However, she was unable to get hold of the documents for months after “Apple’s lawyers filed exemption after exemption”.

You can start playing at once, no registration is needed. Compete for free against thousands of other players and decorate yourself with great trophies!

2023 - Since the wars between enemy nations were dying out at the beginning of the 21. century, someone had to ensure a fresh supply of senseless violence. The solution: Hive Rise! The TV-Show, in which bored millionaires, car tinkers and retired generals can do a live and uncensored arms race.

New Crimson Skies Sounds Likely
In the latest chat at GameSpot, Smith & Tinker founder and FASA IP creator, Jordan Weisman, spoke of their new game "Nanover". Earlier this summer we learned that Smith & Tinker had joined with Piranha to bring us a new MechWarrior. But if Weisman has his way, then MechWarrior isn't the only revival we will see. He has confirmed that a new installment in the Crimson Skies franchise may not be far off.

"I wanted to start with MechWarrior, because it really struck me as the one that had the largest existing fan base and it had been the longest since a MechWarrior title was done right," he said. "Most of my time is invested in [Smith & Tinker], but in the wee hours of the night, I spend time thinking about the older properties. I think Crimson Skies is something we'd love to get some energy around, and we have some devious plans--we'll see if those materialize."
Gearbox's Randy Pitchford on Heat Game
At E3 2006 it was announced that a game based on the movie "Heat" was in development. GameSpot speaks with Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford, in which Pitchford gives the behind-the-scenes 411 on why the IP is up for grabs, regardless of interest from three top publishers, and almost snagging Al Pacino.

GameSpot: So what is the current status of the Heat game?

Randy Pitchford: In a nutshell, we're nowhere. We have passionate game makers that would love to do it. We've got filmmakers that think it's a great idea that would love to see it done. We have publishing partners that would love to publish it. But we have no time. That's the limiting factor.

Because of the situation, we're not keeping the IP locked down anymore. So if somebody else were in a spot where they could do it, and everybody was comfortable with that, then conceivably that could happen.

Heat vs. Borderlands... Which project would you have taken on?

Wake The Hell Up!

Good morning Monday people in the house, rise and shine! Yup, yup, everyone getting back to the grind. Mondays kinda blow. Unless you're Canadian and have it off today! w00t. ;) Oh wait, I don't have it off today. Bugger. So I've given the whole "if I had a penis for a day" thing a lot of thought over the years. And the decision has been officially finalized. If I had a penis, I would go to a big party and when people passed out drunk I'd slap them in the face with it. Might seem like a waste of penis, but the heart wants what the heart wants. Have a great day! Unless you don't want to.

QotD: For you non-console owners / players out there... what would it take to get you to purchase a console?
