The Future of City of Heroes: Going Rogue

By Gerald Villoria | PC Previews | Aug 31, 2009 6:33 PM | Comment

City of Heroes has been going strong for five years, but now it faces its greatest challenge yet: direct competition. While other MMOs, particularly the 800 lb. gorilla known as World of Warcraft, have captured the lion's share of the online space, City of Heroes has always hummed along in its self-made niche. But now it's going to be met head-on by other comic-book inspired games: Sony Online's DC Universe Online and Cryptic's Champions Online. Paragon Studios intends to step up to the challenge by rolling out exciting new content upgrades and a full-fledged expansion that'll blur the lines between heroes and villains. Read More »

Rock Band to Promote Drinking and Gaming

By Gerald Villoria | Xbox 360 News | Aug 31, 2009 4:23 PM | Comment

Bars have been offering up karaoke nights for many years, allowing their patrons to serve as both customer and entertainment. Harmonix and MTV Games have just announced a way for bar owners to set aside karaoke's bouncing ball, scrolling lyrics and poorly sung renditions of Journey's "Don't Stop Believing", replacing them with plastic instruments, scrolling note charts and poorly played renditions of... you guessed it, Journey's "Don't Stop Believing."

The idea behind the Rock Band Bar Nights program is to help increase foot traffic to these drinking establishments, and to provide Rock Band fans with a place to play outside of their living rooms. Rock Band gamers will come far closer to fulfilling that rock and roll fantasy when they take the stage in front of a live audience, even if they are only playing plastic instruments. Read More »

GTA4: Mile-high Club for Gay Tony?

By Will Tuttle | Xbox 360 News | Aug 31, 2009 2:40 PM | Comment

Although it's easy to argue that Grand Theft Auto IV was superior to the previous GTA titles in a number of ways, there was one notable area in which it couldn't measure up. You see, one of the best features of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was the ability to hop in a plane and spend a little time exploring the friendly skies before leaping out and drifting over the massive world with CJ's trusty parachute. Alas, that didn't make it into Grand Theft Auto IV... until now, maybe. Read More »

Rockstar on iPhone: Beats and Bullets

By Anthony Gallegos | Cheats News | Aug 31, 2009 11:36 AM | Comment

Rockstar announced today that both Beaterator and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars will be coming out for the iPhone this fall. Both are developed by Rockstar Leeds, the same studio which developed Chinatown Wars on DS and GTA: Vice City Stories and GTA: Liberty City Stories for PSP. Beaterator is being developed in conjunction with the artist Timbaland.

There's no word yet as to how these games will utilize the motion-sensing capabilities or the touch screen of the iPhone, though in the case of Chinatown Wars it will likely be similar to how players used the stylus on the DS version. Read More »

And You Thought You Wouldn't See Kratos in 2009

By Will Tuttle | PlayStation 3 News | Aug 31, 2009 11:20 AM | Comment

It seems like we've been hearing rumblings about some sort of God of War and God of War II Blu-ray release for months now, but today this dream finally became a reality when Sony officially announced The God of War Collection for PS3. It makes perfect sense given the fact that God of War III is currently scheduled for an early 2010 release and many PS3s can't play PS2 games, so it's actually a bit surprising that the announcement took so long. Thankfully, we won't just be getting quick-and-dirty ports of Kratos' first two adventures, as the developers have improved upon the games in a number of ways. Read More »

Extracting Horror from the Wii: Dead Space Extraction Hands-on

By Anthony Gallegos | Wii Previews | Aug 28, 2009 5:04 PM | Comment

I'm not going to break down the gameplay of the upcoming Dead Space Extraction. If you want to know about how it controls, which buttons do what, and how things work you should check out Gerald's last preview. This short update is here to discuss what was, for me, the biggest question I wanted answered when I recently got a chance to play Extraction: How was the team going to achieve the same level of storytelling, characterization and atmosphere that I experienced in the original Dead Space in an on-rails shooters for the Wii? Clones and Jedi: Hands-on with Republic Heroes

By Gerald Villoria | Xbox 360 Previews | Aug 28, 2009 4:45 PM | Comment

The premise behind Star Wars: The Clone Wars -- Republic Heroes is a strong one: Control popular Star Wars characters in a cooperative-type action game. The Republic Heroes come in two main varieties: Clones and Jedi. The Clones are the munitions experts of the Star Wars Universe, adept at firing blasters, chucking grenades, and ducking behind cover when necessary. If you're familiar with the Clone Wars animated series you'll know tough-as-nails soldiers like Captain Rex and Commander Cody. The Jedi are the Republic's storied knights, skilled with the lightsaber and masters of the Force, able to manipulate the world around them with a thought. The usual suspects are all here, including Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Mace Windu, and the blue-skinned Aayla Secura. Read More »

Space Exploration All the Rage Among Lombax

By Tyler Barber | PlayStation 3 News | Aug 28, 2009 3:21 PM | Comment

A new video popped up on the PlayStation Blog today that highlights space exploration in Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time. In the video, Insomniac's creative director Brian Allgeier explains how space-faring will not only provide side-missions and additional enemies to fight, but will also lead to upgrades for your ship and your arsenal.

While exploring, you're also able to land on small, spherical moons that act like mini platforming challenge stages (ala Mario Galaxy's mini planets). Other notable add-ons in this mode are pirate radio stations (similar to Captain Slag and Rusty Pete's previous disc jockeying), and a final "uber-boss" that aims to challenge long-time fans. A Crack in Time is scheduled for release this fall on the PlayStation 3. Read More »
