According to ELSPA and Chart-Track GfK's figures, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was the best-selling Xbox 360 game of 2009 in the UK, despite its November release date. The game, developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision, also topped the UK PlayStation 3 and multi-format chart.

According to ELSPA and Chart-Track GfK's figures, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was the best selling PlayStation 3 game in the UK, just as in the Xbox 360 and the multi-format chart of the year. Console ownership in the UK approaches a middleground between the USA, where the Xbox 360 dominates, and mainland Europe, which favors the PlayStation 3.
