Here on the Independent Student desk we always like to hear what you're up to so we can make sure we write about the things that are important to you. Getting e-mails also makes us feel loved and cherished, so everyone's a winner. We’re constantly on the lookout for good student stories - be they funny, scary, thought-provoking or just plain weird- so if something interesting is going on in your student life that you think we need to know about, stop whatever you're doing and tell us immediately!

Work experience

Putting in the time as a workie is a rite of passage that any wannabe journalist has to embrace. We don't want you thinking that work experience on the Student desk is just about mastering the art of a good cup of tea though; it’s also about being prepared to make phone calls, research stories and even, potentially, write a couple. You have to be willing to embrace your inner geek too of course; we are an online team after all. So, if you’re interested in getting some proper online journalism experience, all you've got to do is send us an e-mail with:

• your CV attached
• an idea of when you're available
• three things you'd like to see on the Independent Student channel that aren't there now
• a joke (preferably a funny one but we're not that fussy)
