No charges for murder suspects

NO charges will be brought against those suspected of murdering Latvian motherof-two Baiba Saulite, the Fingal Independent can reveal. Despite a file on the case being with the Director of Public Prosecutions for over 18 months and exhaustive investigations, the DPP will not be pressing charges. It's a major blow to gardaí who were said to be 'hopeful' of a successful prosecution, more than three years after the 28-year-old was killed.

Celebrations for Paul's birthday

PARTYING was very much on the agenda at Swords' Old Schoolhouse last week, with birthday boys ruling the roost. Each weekend the venue is packed with Fingal's finest, eager to start their weekend on a high by paying a visit to the newly revamped restaurant. The cosy lounge supplies its loyal customers with a sitting room vibe, which instantly makes it feel like a second home and the ideal spot to play host to the numerous birthdays that are frequently being celebrated there.

Extra-time fails to separate old rivals in titanic struggle

THE more things change the more they remain the same. Not even the humble O'Byrne Cup could escape the spell that these counties cast whenever they meet each other on the intercounty scene. The personnel may have been unfamiliar but the end result was predictable as Meath and Dublin drew for the umpteenth time, and they were still locked together at the end of extra-time at Parnell Park last Sunday.
