The forthcoming general election has seen the rise of the Liberals and a growth in the number of candidates standing as "Independent". Chapter One, " A de-trolling". Over two years ago, before this site had been born a "blogger" on the Torygraph had decided to do a bit of cyber-stalking. In an idle moment I googled "Ron Broxted" and saw that not only was my blog here listed but a number of posts all related to the more outre reaches of gay male porn. The epicentre was a poster on the "My Telegraph" site. Reluctantly the H.Q there decided to delete that…
David Cameron's response to the Cleggstasy is brave. Possibly in the Sir Humphrey sense. In his emergency election broadcast, he doesn't go on the attack. He tries to lay claim to the new politics, even to the extent of re-running his attack on Margaret Thatcher as one of the politicians who has treated the people "like mugs for about 40 years". Who are the great living film critics of the English-speaking world? I inadvertently made the case for Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times in this very column some weeks back – an excellent human being, as well as a guy who can write eloquently of his opinion on the latest Twilight movie (which is not much, by the way). Lots of people love Anthony Lane of The New Yorker, Philip French of The Observer and Mark Kermode of the BBC, whether they agree with them or not. But then there's Vern.
19 Apr 2010 00:00:01 BSTGiven all we now know about the cover-up of clerical sexual abuse by Rome it's difficult to see what is significant about the Pope's meeting with a small number of victims in Malta. I appreciate that it may have been meaningful to those who chose to meet the Pope, but it hardly represents a major breakthrough in addressing the global scandals engulfing the Roman Catholic church.
