Established in 2003, The European Cancer Patient Coalition is the voiceof the European cancer patient community, uniquely representing the interests of all cancer patient groups from the major to the rarer cancers. It has been established to represent the views of cancer patients in the European healthcare debate and to provide a forum for European cancer patients to exchange information and share best practice experiences.
December 16th, The Board of Directors and all the Staff at ECPC are deeply saddened by news of the tragic loss of Arthur Masny, ECPC board member. and extend our deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to his family, in particular to his wife Gosia and their two year old daughter Joy. Arthur was new to the ECPC Board but nevertheless was very keen to donate his significant expertise as a lawyer and rare cancer survivor in order to ensure the future success of ECPC's work on behalf of all cancer patients throughout Europe. Unfortunately, Arthur's disease profile was both highly complex and aggressive and it is with bitter irony that we feel the loss of his personal battle with cancer. Although his time working as a member of the Board of ECPC was cruelly cut short, we will remember him as a much valued colleague and, perhaps more importantly, as a friend. He will be sadly missed by us all.

Call to Support the Signing of the Written Declaration on Cancer Research
A written Declaration on Cancer Research has been put forward by five prominent MEPs and backed by ECPC –through our FACE initatives (http://www.forumagainstcancer.eu/). It calls for the implementation of measures across Europe to improve the coordintion, cooperation and coherence of pan-European, national, regional and local cancer research activities and to avoid duplication and focusing on unmet need in cancer treatment.
This is our call to all ECPC member organisations and advocates across the 27 EU countries to contact their MEPs and ensure that they sign this Declaration. It serves as a reminder to MEPs, both new and old ones, of the need to ensure that there is an adequate mapping, funding and increased cooperation in cancer research.

Patricia Garcia-Prieto at the FACE Meeting in the EP (June 2010)
At the launch of the "Partnership for Action Against Cancer" in September 2009, former Commissioner of Health, Androulla Vassiliou, stated that the EU 'never tried anything like this at European level before, and we are all going to learn progressively as the Partnership develops and evolves'. Although the Cancer Partnership will not officially start its project work before spring 2011, ECPC has been successful to raise funding from the EU Commission to for this conference. It will be a platform to call on all European stakeholders to collaborate in the Cancer Partnership as a flagship initiative against cancer. See the Cancer Summit 2010 Event Page.
ECPC Comments on the Draft Report by Christofer Fjellner, MEP, regarding the information to Patients dossier
The legislative proposal on “Information to patients” put forward by the Commission is timely and welcome, and the amendments tabled on the draft report prepared by Christofer Fjellner MEP, can lead to tangible progress. Nevertheless, we would like to highlight some aspects in the current proposal which in our opinion need to be further refined so as to make the legislation more patient-cantered and thus ensure that all patients across the EU, regardless of status, nationality, economic background, language competence, Internet literacy or disease, are able to access the information they need.
