KAREN BERGREEN is a comedian who travels the country and performs regularly at Gotham Comedy Club, The Comic Strip and Carolines Comedy Club. She has appeared on Comedy Central, the Oxygen Network and on “Law & Order.” Karen graduated from Harvard University and then went to law school, after which she worked as a fancy pants attorney. But she didn’t want to disappoint her parents, so she quit her safe and promising law career to become a stand-up comic. Now, in an effort to make even less money, she has become a novelist. Her 2010 novel, Following Polly (St. Martin's Press), received rave reviews from the New York Times, O Magazine, and her mother-in-law. Karen lives in New York City with her husband and two sons. Her fish passed away recently, but Karen plans to get a new one when the time is right.

I dreaded physical activity. I was terrible in gym. I couldn't run fast, I had no coordination, strength or flexibility. I went to a school where they forced you to...

I love my friends. I love the ones I talk to every day. I love the ones I talk to once a year. I even love the ones that I kind of can't stand every now and then. I consider myself a good friend. There, I said it. A brag....

A Happy (Sort of) Bully Tale

(9) Comments | Posted April 11, 2012 | 12:16 PM

I had my first bully experience when I was 8 years old. I was at sleep-away camp and very excited to be there. I had pictured an eight-week slumber party.

I met Karen Cunningham the second day. It was early morning and we were standing in a pile of pine...
