Swimming Science was created in 2010 with the goal of educating and improving the transparency of swimming science. The goal is to provide thought provoking, informative and creative discussion on a variety of topics to help educate coaches and those passionate about swimming.

G. John Mullen received his Doctorate in Physical at University of Southern California (USC). At USC, he was a clinical research assistant at USC performing research on adolescent diabetes, lung adaptations to swimming, and swimming biomechanics. G. John has been featured in Swimming World Magazine, Swimmer Magazine, and the International Society of Swim Coaches Journal. He is currently the strength and conditioning coach at Santa Clara Swim Club, owner of the Center of Optimal Restoration and creator of the Swimmer's Shoulder System.
Allan Phillips is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist based in Tucson, Arizona and co-owner of Pike Athletics with his wife Katherine. He is also an American Swimming Coaches Association Level 2 coach, USA Triathlon coach, Russian Kettlebell Challenge (RKC) instructor, and Functional Movement Screen specialist. His writing has been featured by Sports Rehab Expert, StrengthCoach.com, and Functional Movement Systems. In June 2012, Dr. Mullen selected Allan as an editor for the Swimming Science Research Review. A former college golfer at Emory University, Allan will attend physical therapy school in 2013.
Chris Plumb was named Head Coach of Carmel Swim Club in July 2006. As Head Coach, Chris oversees all aspects of the club, and he coaches the Senior Group. Chris is also the Head Coach at Carmel High School. This year’s Carmel high School Girl’s Swim Team won their first overall National High School Championship. He directed the 2011 Carmel Boys and Girls Swim Teams to IHSAA State Championship Titles (notably, Chris has been at the helm for the last five of the Lady Hound’s 25 consecutive titles and two of the Boys 13 titles). He was inducted into this year’s class of honorees in the Indiana Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame. Beyond the high school realm, 2011 was a great year for CSC athletes. Under Chris’s leadership, Harrison Wagner was the 18 and Under National Champion in the 50 Meter Freestyle, and Lacey Locke was the Junior National Runner-Up in the 100 Meter Backstroke.
Alan Goldberg is a sports psychology consultant, Dr. Alan Goldberg works with swimmers at every level from Olympians right down to age groupers. A popular presenter at the Olympic Training Center, swim coaches clinics and clubs around the country, Dr. G specializes in helping individual swimmers get unstuck and swimming fast when it counts the most. He is the author of Smoke on the Water, a mental toughness guide for swimmers, DMTS (Developing Mentally Tough Swimmers) a coach's guide for developing mental toughness, Swimming Out of Your Mind, a 6-CD sports psychology/mental toughness training program, The Racer's Edge, a 2 CD mental toughness meet companion, and Swimming Fast When It Counts The Most, a mental toughness workbook for swimmers.
