- West Augustine Career Fair – Wednesday, November 14, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Solomon Calhoun Center, 1300 Duval St. Open to all St. Johns County residents and featuring career, education, and small business development services. Certified counselors will assist participants with training for interviews, dressing for success, and health screenings. Office of the County Attorney will provide workshops covering restoration of rights and more. Numerous organizations will be onsite will include Work Source, First Coast Technical College, Flagler Hospital, DAKA, Solar Stik, Wells Fargo, TLAY (Home Health Care), and New Hope Bike Works. - Veteran's Day Hours – All offices resume standard business hours Tuesday, November 13. Garbage, recycling, and yard debris collection schedules for the week will not be affected.
- Health and Human Services Thanksgiving Food Drive – HHS is proud to partner with local radio station The WYRE (105.5 FM) to host a Thanksgiving Food Drive. Residents are encouraged to drop off non-perishable food items November 10 - 17. Participants who donate during special appearances of the WYRE Skybox will be eligible to register for prize drawings from local businesses. Food Drive events and drop off locations.
- County Government Ethics, Function, and Transparency Workshop – The Board of County Commissioners invites the community to a special workshop at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20 to learn about some of the most common laws that affect elected officials, volunteers who serve on government advisory committees and boards, and citizens who wish to take an active role in County government. - Recycle Thanksgiving Cooking Oil from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday, November 26 at Francis Field or 840 W. 16th St. on Anastasia Island. When grease is poured down the drain, it can clog sewer pipes, create public health hazards, and pollute our waterways. Recycle, and it can be turned into useful products like biodiesel fuel. - The Dressing of the Palms – Vilano Beach Main Street and the North Shores Improvement Association invite residents to participate in "The Dressing of the Palms," celebration of the holidays. For a $25.00 fee, you can adopt and decorate a palm to showcase and promote your school or business. Decorating will be judged November 10, with cash prizes to the top three. - Food for Fines Program – St. Johns County Public Libraries will accept non-perishable food items to pay overdue library fines through January 5, 2013. All donations will be delivered to the St. Johns County Food Closet and distributed locally during the to meet increased need during the holiday season. - Support for New Council on Aging Temporary Alzheimer's Center – In a unanimous show of support for the COA initiative to bring expanded care options for Alzheimer's patients to St. Johns County, the Board of County Commissioners recently agreed to the establishment of a temporary Center in Ponte Vedra. - Citizen Dispute Mediation Program – Free service to help residents resolve legal issues with the assistance of a Florida Supreme Court Certified County Mediator. - FCC Grants Narrowbanding Deadline Waiver – Citing progress St. Johns County has made in transitioning to the new 800 Mhz emergency services radio system, the Federal Communications Commission granted an extension of the VHF/UHF narrowbanding deadline and noted that the County's case met the high standards required for granting waivers. - New iMap Application – The GIS Division is pleased to announce the launch of the new and improved iMap application. The new iMap allows users to search for parcels, addresses, street names, parks, schools, fire stations, golf courses, fire hydrants, and points of interest. In addition, layers including Commissioner Districts, Flood Zones, Future Land Use, Zoning, and a variety of aerial imagery ranging from 1999 (black & white) to 2010 (color) can be displayed.
