Help Create a $1 Million Endowment for

Interpretation: A Journal of Bible and Theology

In Honor of James Luther Mays

Jim Mays and the publications he edited have enriched the field of biblical studies in the United States and beyond. Dr. Mays, Union graduate and former professor of Old Testament and He- brew, has graced us with more than a half a century of biblical and theological scholarship. He has been instrumental in developing Interpretation: A Journal of Bible and Theology into a world class publication serving as editor for much of its history.

This is a pivotal moment for Union Presbyterian Seminary’s Interpretation: A Journal of Bible and Theology. While traditional subscriptions have decreased in the past decade due to the challenges facing all print publications, the journal is reaching more readers than ever in its digital format and cultivating a worldwide audience.

Partnership agreements are enabling libraries in developing countries that might not otherwise be able to afford subscrip- tions to access Interpretation, increasing the journal’s circulation by more than 7,000 institutions in these countries since the start of 2012. This fits into Union Presbyterian’s vision to expand its global missions by equipping scholars, pastors, and Christian educators from developing countries.

A $1 million endowment fund for Interpretation will ensure that future generations continue to benefit from the journal’s contributions to biblical scholarship. Gifts from generous donors will make possible this fitting tribute to Dr. James Luther Mays.
