More and more information is being shown to prove the benefits from training with weights for women. Even though this is the case, should you be afraid of adding weight? Do women bulk from the so called “training like a man?”
Let’s answer these questions but with a different spin, let’s look at it from a scientific point of view.
First! What are the benefits of training with weights for women?
1. Training with weights has been shown in studies to burn more calories when put head to head against cardio alone! Now that’s a serious reason to start adding weight training to your workout regimen.
2. Training with weights has been shown in studies to help women fight the battle against osteoporosis, which occurs later in life as a woman’s body stops secreting estrogen. Loss of bone mass is another and the earlier you starting lifting weight the better!
3. Shape! If nothing else this is the one you want to pay attention to! Why? Having shape, and curves on your body is damn sexy! Want a butt, Squat! Want the back of your arms to shape up! Tri-cep kickbacks!
You won’t have a shapely body without training with weights no matter what the magazines tell you! Body weight exercises are great but only go so far for developing your muscles!
Now let’s get into the bulking factor, or better yet will you gain weight from weight training. Again we want to answer this question from a scientific view point since we don’t rely on myths to base our nutrition and fitness training methods on.
Here’s the simple answer, NO! Not unless you want too! Now that was the simple answer. Here’s why you won’t bulk or gain weight from weight training rather you’ll see lean, toned muscles develop.
Hormones dictate how our muscles develop and grow. Even though men and women have the same hormones we have a different percentage of those muscles. Men have more testosterone than women and women more estrogen than men.
