Heal(ing) has a definitive definition for most people. When we use the word healing it implies there is something wrong. I believe healing is much more. The soul’s sole purpose for being here is for emotional and spiritual growth–a.k.a. transformation. Healing is evolving and optimizing into our health and into who we really are. I believe that Mind, Body, Spirit healing is restructuring our energy that has become distorted, misaligned or suppressed. My definition of healing is evolution beyond just losing some ability and regaining it.

What are we really asking for when we ask for Mind, Body, Spirit Healing?

When we truly ask for Mind, Body, Spirit healing we are asking about the ’cause,’ of our pain not the symptoms we are experiencing. When I work with someone, I am not treating, I am not giving therapy, I am only conscious of symptoms because the symptoms are clues to what needs to be transformed. Using the unconscious mind the person is guided to create their unique transformation process to ultimately eliminate (heal) the cause of the symptoms.

Do our beliefs create our illnesses?

Without blaming, shaming or finding fault, our beliefs definitely form our limitations and on many levels our beliefs can inhibit us from evolving beyond something or creates a way to cope. What we tell (self-talk) ourselves has an impact on our physiology. For example: Depression (symptom) is Anger turned against the self. What we need to find is what the Anger is about and resolve or transcend the anger.

Generally, people continue to do or think whatever they do or think until they have reached a point of pain they no longer want to endure, thus they focus on ‘getting rid’ of the pain. Western medicine and pharmaceutical research understands this phenomenon well– together they have diligently focused on the pain and provided magic pills to ease it. Thus, many people are addicted to a ‘quick fix,’ albeit has many adverse side effects.

Transformation (healing) comes when we know what thoughts/beliefs create the pain–i.e. an insight into the cause and effect. Once the insight is made, we then need to change the thoughts, behaviors and habits to complete the transformation.

What is the most important thing people need to know about Mind, Body, Spirit healing?

Once someone has experienced the Mind, Body Spirit transformational process, it no longer matters what your prior experience has been, except to lead you to what you need to transform or transcend. Within the first session people are amazed at their transformation. Generally people need more than one session to complete a thorough transformation.

The work being done on light in theology as reflected in the Bible and Judaeo Christian tradition, philosophy, physics, medicine and near-death experiences is directing us to a revolutionary breakthrough in terms of a new model – a new approach to reality. Progress in all of these areas of human curiosity is being driven by brilliant and original insights into the very nature of the foundational stuff of the universe – light – an elusive, pervasive, something or someone!

This new approach to reality sees the Mind -Body – Spirit connection as an essential insight if we are to even begin to comprehend the inner and outer worlds that together reveal to us what exists – what is truly real.

After more than two decades of reading other’s works, my own experiences, and pondering, I came to the conclusion that it made sense to use the Mind – Body – Spirit connection as the basic framework for presenting the human experience of light in the Bible and Judaeo Christian tradition, philosophy, physics, medicine, and near-death experiences. Light is the ultimate stuff of all that exists as both a something and a someone, calling each of us into life.

If light is indeed the foundational, basic stuff of all that exists then it is easy to understand why light based medical technologies and medications are the most effective and the non-invasive form of medicine practiced in the early twenty-first century. They are utilizing the basic constituent element of the universe – light – in one or another of its many forms.

Long before I was involved in a serious study of the phenomenon of light, I recognized in myself an intense sensitivity to light in all its forms. From my recollection of the early years of my life, my sleep patterns have always been highly affected by light. Even if I had been sleeping for eight hours or so before the time of my rising, if the rising time was prior to natural daylight I found it very difficult to get out of bed and still do. As I am aging into my mid-seventies my body clock winds down sooner at the end of natural daylight but awakens as soon as natural daylight comes streaming into my bedroom window.

I have always wanted to be in natural daylight as much as possible during the day either outdoors, or if indoors, working by a window with abundant natural light. My career as a public school teacher, principal, and college professor found me maximizing natural light in my classrooms and requesting office space with abundant windows as sources of natural light. I seldom turned on the artificial lights, which were either incandescent or limited spectrum fluorescent, until forced to do so by natural darkness when my work schedule kept me there past the end of daylight. I have always felt good in the light. It has been a lifelong medicine for me.

In 1993, due to a persistent “lazy eye” condition in my right eye and the beginning deterioration in acuity of vision in my left eye, I sought a new phototherapy treatment recommended by my Optometrist, Dr. Earl Lizotte, who had been working in the field of Syntonic Optometry since the late 1980’s. It was during this treatment that I was told of the work of Dr. Jacob Liberman and made aware of his book, Light Medicine of the Future. Dr. Lizotte was also exploring the work of Arthur Zajonc on the history of light as described in Zajonc’s 1993 book, Catching the Light. Zajonc is a Professor of Physics at Amherst College and a specialist in Quantum Physics.

These two works filled in the missing pieces of my own study of light that had formally begun with my initial work on the writing of Pierre Teilhard deChardin in the mid 1970’s.

Teilhard de Chardin was a Jesuit priest, scientist, and philosopher, who along with Zajonc and other interdisciplinary synthesizers see science, theology, mysticism, religion, and ecology as fundamentally interrelated. Each of these areas reveals a different aspect of reality. Collectively they give us the most complete picture of reality we can attain.

With the addition of near-death studies, the scope of my study on light came to completion in 2006, however, my research on Light as a Someone and a something continues.

The Mind-Body-Spirit connection in the Medicine of Light originates and is confirmed in the work of synthesizers such as Arthur Zajonc and Pierre Teilhard de Chardin. It is my basic approach to reality in this initial article on the Medicine of Light, and in a series of articles on specific applications of light based technologies, therapies, and medications.

The Anatomy of the Spirit by Caroline Myss, PH.D is a beautiful and insightful guide into the mind/body/spirit connection. I first read this book about 10 years ago and found myself leafing through its pages once again just a few months ago searching for answers.

About 13 years ago I suffered an unspeakable trauma, something that I could never ever imagine happening, did. Yes, I did go for many rounds of counseling but other than that, I kept my trauma a secret. My tears were cried privately and I just continued with the business of living.

We make decisions sometimes that are not in our best interest, maybe out of fear or in the hope that we are somehow protecting ourselves or others, or both. But choosing not to speak our truth is not a good place to be in. What I did instead was to stuff my pain way down deep into the very darkest corner of my by heart, my soul, my being. No amount of counseling, no therapy could reach that.

Yes, our life, our story, our thoughts and our beliefs really do become our biology. We are, after all, a mind body. After so many years I thought that I had been able to exorcise most of my demons, but this was not the case.

About a year ago I started to experience bouts of extreme lower abdomen pain that left me drained and bedridden. Initially I shrugged it off – after all, wasn’t I always a stomach girl? Every time something stressful happened in my life, wasn’t my stomach the first to say, “Hello there, remember me?” And weren’t we all going through an incredibly stressful time trying to cope with my Dad’s rapidly failing health?

After my 5th attack and a battery of medical tests showed no medical cause for my symptoms, I acknowledged what I already knew. I think we always intuitively KNOW, don’t we? My body was rebelling and screaming for me to pay attention – to sit up and take notice – to deal with my trauma once and for all. I was scared, really scared. I knew enough about the mind/body/spirit connection to realize that I needed to take action now to start the healing process before it was too late.

You see, disease is sometimes the result of trauma firmly rooted in place in our bodies. It can cause an energy shift that affects our cells – the very fabric of our body, leaving us open and vulnerable to disease. And I was hoping that in my case, after so many years of not paying attention, that it wasn’t’ too late.

My healing journey has been long and difficult. In the final analysis, I understand now what I didn’t before. I finally got it. This is my life and my journey. No matter what life dishes up, it’s how I treat with these trials, these traumas, which ultimately shapes the person I am. It’s MY story, no one else’s.

Participating in a course “Inspirational Leaders” our assignments including reading and selecting a word-a-day from Spirit at Work Cards: Bringing Spirit and Values to Work by Lance H.K. Secretan. It is interesting how this book and the vocabulary concepts presented within fit right into my 365 Words for 2015 project. While some mornings I hit the floor running with enormous ideas for writing and the letters just spill across the page, on other mornings I seek inspiration. Today that arrived bound in the word congruency.

A congruent character places trust and honesty at the forefront of every situation. The mind is aligned not only with the tasks at hand – work, family, friendship, product development – but with the advantages and disadvantages that the task holds for each stakeholder. I may declare a vacation in Hawaii is the best chance for family reunification but without planning and interactive discussion I may discover twenty people jammed into sardine-sized rooms while rain pours, liquor decants, and arguments discharge. Such drizzle on paradise is not beneficial to anyone. My mind created a terrific scenario but my spirit failed to touch and tap into the lives and feelings of others.

Body entails seizing all that is within and putting it forward. My mind designed a vision of perfection, my body and internal tickings must combine to carry it out. We have decided to remodel a house for out neighbors. She just returned from knee surgery so the steps are a disaster; he suffers dementia and the twists, turns, and torn carpet jumble his steps and his thinking. I must possess a roadmap for our work, plus it is essential to include everyone in the blueprint to achieve success. Our minds combine as our bodies unite to produce. Organization reigns and dedication sees the job from start to finish. Mind and body are congruent in goals and aspirations. We are reaching out to help others, while making certain that ours is the desired help needed.

Along with mind and body is the essence of spirit. Our spirits drive us with determination to help others with little attention to personal gain. I say little attention because when we work for the common good, there is definitely much that the soul earns. The rewards are not monetary, although money can be accepted as it can then be transferred into a new project. As far as personal richness, that blossoms in the depths of the heart, the core of the individual. The spirit when given in totality seems to regenerate energy with each movement and step. The mind may tire, the body grow weary, but the spirit powers on. It is important to examine feelings of exasperation and frustration to determine their root. Often it is not that the product or project is not good or that the mind and the body were misaligned but that the spirit lacked the fortitude to accomplish the greatest ends.

Finally, into the mind/body/spirit mix come emotions. I view emotions as those thoughts and feelings that escape, whether through a slow simmer or busting burst to energize or deflate. Emotions intertwine our passions and reactions, our sentiments and sense of excitement. They are contagious; extremely so. When you laugh, most often others laugh too. When you giggle, they will giggle along with you. When you scream with passionate joy, the resonance fills the air and the spirits of those with whom you work resonate. The same is true when your emotions are a drag. Your anger bites; your fury hurls ferocity into the faces of others. Wrath and vehemence destroy the best of intentions and ruin the congruency of individuals and teams, bodies and souls.

As you approach the next major objective with purpose and aspiration, outline your plan, jot possible roadblocks and detours, evaluate the bonus surprises that may just pop up along the way, and then move into congruency. This congruency includes your personal configuration and orientation as well as that of every person with whom you will come into contact. This does not mean to fall and fail because of a desire to please that only spells disaster as the project can never become more than a dim apparition. It does mean communication, interconnections, and an interwoven effort toward ultimate success.

The mind-body-spirit debate has developed into a well known researched fact over the past decade. While there has always been some amount of contribution given to the mindset of any patient, only recently has the concept of caring for the “entire self” become a common practice in today’s modern medicine and prevention programs. Mind-body-spirit wellness has reached new levels of inclusive factors for today’s health conscious individuals. Holistic health has finally reached acceptance in many offices of doctors and practitioners of medicine.

The power of caring for one’s entire body is really quite impressively powerful. Individuals who have opted for total mind-body-spirit wellness have been able to determine great levels of health and energy within their own framework by allowing their entire being into account. Studies on the power of the mind have shown some shocking results, the effects have been proven to be of course, mind-blowing.

Holistic health is essential in providing high quality total care for your self, your family, and your overall well being. Studies have proven that holistic health practices have dramatically reduced the number and frequency of illnesses related to common every day exposure. School children living in mind-body-spirit wellness focused homes miss less than half of the school days due to illness than that of their classmates still living in traditional Western medicine focused homes.

Accounts of real world individuals being able to provide testimony to the effects of holistic health practices on their daily lives are continuously increasing. Many individuals offer that the mind-body-spirit wellness approach to life has given them not only their physical health back, but their emotional health as well. For those who place more emphasis on the testimony of physicians and health care practitioners, there are an increasing number of offices that practice mind-body-spirit wellness as part of their routine care.

Holistic health and the mind-body-spirit wellness approach to life has also opened up a while new industry for the entrepreneurial spirit. Many manufacturers feel that it has been nothing short of a blessing to fully endorse their product without doubting the word of their advertisers. There is a vast and endless ocean of new and improved products which adhere to holistic health practices and principles which have emerged onto the market as of late, and for the most part, these products actually do what they say they are going to do. Of course, we wouldn’t be an enterprising society if a few unscrupulous manufacturers didn’t sneak in there for their piece of this multi billion dollar industry. Our culture responded appropriately by deeming specific authorities on the topic to be the final word in quality and effectiveness.

By developing institutes that focus completely on mind-body-spirit wellness and awareness, there has been a successful and remarkable overhaul in the basic integrity of holistic health materials and products. While of course there are still some scam factories out there, the vast majority of holistic health companies want to be part of this ever growing, popular, and health enhancing trend that is changing the lives and souls of everyone involved.

Holistic health products that are able to make claims of providing “miracle” results are generally not considered to be authentic products endorsed or even recognized by any authority of holistic health practices. Rather, while there have been case reports regarding “miraculous results” on an individual basis, the mind-body-spirit wellness community does not promote grand promises but instruction, focus, and of course, directives that help individuals enhance their mind-body-spirit connection. Very few products on the holistic health market today receive genuine endorsements or “approval” from these authorities. Those that do have not only been proven to deliver what they promise, but also meet a strict standard of what constitutes and actual holistic health product.

As the mind-body-spirit wellness and awareness movement grows and matures over the next few years, there is bound to be growth in numerous areas of product development. What has reached the market now can be considered to be some remarkable enhancements in the holistic health practice. In fact, there have been a few products which not only earn the endorsement of leading authorities, but actually are not expected to be able to be produced better than they are right now. This is a pretty bold statement considering that technology and education will never be static yet those few products out there that are being praised and sung by the leading authorities have literally taken the holistic health product market by storm.

Our society will most likely continue the never ending search for powerful new health remedies and holistic health products which enhance the mind-body-spirit wellness experience with great enthusiasm and vigor over the next ten years. After all, what is considered a relatively new phenomenon in this country has been considered to be tradition in other societies for centuries. There is a wealth of knowledge waiting for us to uncover as time goes by.

The mind-body-spirit wellness movement and the holistic health practices that are now finally being viewed as medical advancements will continue to offer our society a new way of looking at health, not to mention a vast assortment of new health treatments. This can only be considered to be good news for those who suffer from chronic conditions, serious health problems and illnesses, or the healthy who wish to remain that way.

When we talk about health, the first thing most of us think about is the state of our physical bodies. However, when we think about emotions, mood, and mental well being, most people think of something separate from our health and our bodies – an abstract part of our selves we often refer to as the mind.

As a practitioner of acupuncture and Oriental medicine, I was not taught that these two things, body and mind, are connected: I was taught that they are one and the same thing. In Chinese medicine, the state of the body and the mind are two sides of the same coin, mutually dependent and interconnected. As one who sees and treats a broad range of ailments ranging from the overtly physical (e. g. back pain, headaches, dermatitis) to what seems entirely psychological (e. g.depression, anxiety, excess stress), I can say with conviction that there is almost always a connection between the mental and physical. For instance, physical symptoms can be a manifestation of emotional turmoil or duress. Psychological problems can arise from an imbalance in daily activities, including poor sleep, diet, and exercise (these are the Big 3 lifestyle over which we can exert profound control and thereby deeply benefit our health).

So as not to be overly abstract, let us look at an example. Skin diseases such as dermatitis occur for a variety of reasons and are typically treated with topical solutions, often with limited success. In Oriental medicine such diseases are seen as the result of internal disharmonies typically found within the digestive system. Modern Western medicine has recently discovered that digestive disorders such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Leaky Gut are linked to eczema, dermatitis, and a host of other diseases. So what does all this have to do with the Mind/Body connection? Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Leaky Gut, and many other digestive disorders are directly or indirectly linked to our “mind” in the form of our nervous system and endocrine system. Our body reacts to the stimuli perceived by our brains, inhibiting one system in favor of another. When we are overly stressed our sympathetic nervous system dominates causing a cascade of consequences including weakened digestion and increased cortisol production, all of which directly detract from our health and lead to issues such as Leaky Gut, which in turn increases the likelihood of dermatitis.

Ulcers are another perfect example: when two scientists originally proposed that ulcers were due to bacteria, they were laughed out of their jobs. Everyone knew that ulcers were due to stress, plain and simple. These two scientists were later vindicated when it was revealed the H. Pylori was indeed responsible for ulcers. What was not understood at that time was the effect of stress as an immune system suppressant. Due to excessive stress, some people were more likely to develop ulcers because H. Pylori, which is bacteria common to most people, was given a chance to grow in more than usual. Similarly, many bacterial and viral infections occur when our immune systems are weakened, not merely because we were exposed to a pathogen (we are exposed to infectious pathogens daily). It is often when our mind is out of balance that our body suffers, and vice versa.
