Manager of Donor Communications

Tax Foundation seeks a Manager of Donor Communications who will be responsible for our direct mail (house file) and acquisition programs to increase the number of supporters and revenue. Several thousand individuals support Tax Foundation programs each year, and this position will direct sophisticated and timely content (mail and e-mail) to them to warrant continuing and increased giving. This person must be self-starting and organized, able to set and meet metrics and deadlines, and ready to join an amazing team of fundraising professionals. The right candidate must also believe strongly in the Tax Foundation mission of pushing the tax reform debate toward smarter policies. The Manager of Donor Communications will report to our Vice President for Individual & Foundation Giving and will be located in Washington, DC. Here are a few regular duties that can be expected:
- Setting and meeting schedules for our direct mail house file and acquisition programs, including supervising outside direct mail and printing vendors
- Communicating with small-dollar donors (thank you letters, welcome packets, recognition), documenting interactions, and using moves management techniques and research to identify gift prospects
- Cultivating and preparing up-to-date house file and donor mailing lists
- Monitoring continuously and reporting regularly on program metrics, keeping accurate records and analyzing results to recommend improvements
- Assisting with writing creative and compelling content, incorporating the latest news and TF achievements
- Maintaining a keen understanding of industry trends and make appropriate recommendations on Tax Foundation’s fundraising strategy
Ideal Skill Sets
- Experience in non-profit individual donor fundraising, or equivalent experience in strategic planning, persuasive communications, sales, or a related job
- Results-oriented, strong organization skills, and solid attention to detail
- Able to think strategically, drive projects, meet deadlines, develop and execute plans effectively
Excellent written and verbal communication and donor-engagement skills, projecting a positive and optimistic attitude
Benefits
Salary range is $57,000 to $65,000, depending on qualifications and experience. Benefits include HSA-based health coverage (TF covers an amount equivalent to three-quarters of the silver-level premium and deposits the amount of the deductible into the HSA), dental and vision coverage, life/AD&D/LTD insurance, 12 holidays per year, 15 vacation days per year, sick leave, early release on Fridays, and a generous 401(k) retirement plan (100% match on first 3%; 50% match on next 2%).

Internship Program
We offer a unique internship program designed to introduce undergraduate and graduate students to tax policy principles, and apply them in assessing and advancing public policy. Working directly with our staff in various areas of tax policy, interns gain valuable professional experience and learn about all aspects of our operation.
Clerkship Program
As part of our Center for Legal Reform, the Tax Foundation hires law clerks each fall, spring, and summer. Supervised by our Tax Counsel, law clerk responsibilities include substantive research, authoring, and editing assistance in preparing amicus curiae briefs to appellate courts and special reports on important legal and economic issues relating to tax. Clerks have also authored pieces for publication.
