In this short video for our 100 Second Science series, Steven Jackson explain the principles behind Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Jackson, a trainee clinical scientist at the Christie Hospital in Manchester, explains how intense magnetic fields and radiofrequency waves can be used to produce images of soft tissue inside the human body. One of MRI’s primary uses is the diagnosis of cancer as well as tracking how tumours respond to treatment.
