Cajal Training Programme

The CAJAL Advanced Neuroscience Training Programme is a FENS and IBRO initiative in partnership with the The Gatsby Charitable Foundation, Bordeaux Neurocampus (Bordeaux, France) and the Champalimaud Foundation (Lisbon, Portugal), whose objective is to establish dedicated neuroscience training facilities in Europe. Six schools are hosted each year offering state-of-the-art hands-on training courses in neuroscience. They are designed by first-class neuroscientists and consist of 2-to-3-week project-based courses for approximately 20 international students each course.

IBRO-PERC InEurope Short Stay Grants

Grant amount: Up to 3,000 EUR

IBRO’s Pan European Regional Committee (IBRO-PERC) InEurope Short Stay Grants fund visits to European institutions by researchers living and working within Europe, so that they can acquire new methods or specific techniques that are necessary for their work.

The aim of the program is to increase intra-European mobility of young researchers by providing grants for short, goal-directed exchanges within European laboratories. The duration of such visits is limited to a minimum of four weeks. Funding can be used to cover travel and local expenses.

Eligibility:

– PhD students and young postdoctoral fellows
– 35 years of age or younger
– Only applicants from the European region will be considered

Application calls are open two times per year, one month prior to selection. Applications can only be submitted online. Applicants who are not selected in one round of evaluations are eligible to apply for other rounds. Within two weeks after the research activity has ended, awardees are required to send a brief report and pictures (preferable but optional) suitable for posting on the IBRO website and social media.

IBRO-PERC Support for European Workshops, Symposia, and Meetings

With the aim to foster cooperation among regional young neuroscientists, IBRO’s Pan-European Regional Committee (PERC) invites requests for partial (up to 4000 EUR) funding of Meetings, Workshops and Symposia on important topics in neuroscience organized in European countries.

Preference will be given to activities that include younger scientists and offer training for scientists from countries with limited resources for research or teaching. Priority will be given to applications of a very strong scientific background and to National Society meetings in the former Eastern and Central European countries. Funds may support travel grants to young scientists and/or highly esteemed lecturers (Nobel and Brain Prize winners, etc.) to conferences and advocacy/outreach events. Trainings are only supported if they are of particular merit. Funds may NOT support venue rentals, printed conference materials, abstract books, or coffee breaks and catering.

The application must include in a single document:

– Title of meeting/workshop/symposium
– Place and dates
– Coordinator’s name (please include one-page CV)
– Preliminary program
– List of participants
– Purpose of IBRO-PERC’s funds
– Other sources of funding received or applied for (including amounts).

Applications must be submitted by email to, Prof. Robert Gabriel, at gabriel@gamma.ttk.pte.hu. Late applications will not be considered.

The coordinator must submit a report of activities, participants, and use of IBRO funds within 60 days after the activity. A summary of up to 200 words in English should also be submitted to be posted at the IBRO website. Pictures are always welcome.

Please Note: This funding is available only for organizers of European workshops, symposia, and meetings.

IBRO-PERC Site Lectures

With the aim to facilitate contact between young students and high profile neuroscientists, experience their enthusiasm for brain research and gain first-hand knowledge on modern topics in neuroscience, IBRO-PERC supports the organization of special lectures. These are two 1-2 day long conferences in developing countries, in cooperation with research centres or universities, in which a renowned European neuroscientist lectures about his/her topic of expertise. They carry the title “IBRO-PERC Neuroscience Lectures.” A summary report in English with pictures (preferable but optional) should also be submitted for posting on the IBRO website and social media.

Applications are to be submitted only by email to IBRO-PERC Chair Prof. Róbert Gábriel at gabriel@gamma.ttk.pte.hu.

The application must include in a single document:

– Title of the lecture
– Dates and venue
– Curriculum Vitae (CV) of the applicant
– Preliminary program and budget

IBRO-PERC Travel Grants 

IBRO World Congress. Every four years, IBRO holds a World Congress. IBRO-PERC awards travel grants to European researchers in order to support their participation. The next IBRO World Congress will be held in Daegu, South Korea, in 2019. A travel grant application call will be sent out closer to the Congress date so check back on our website and social media.

FENS Forum. Every two years, FENS hosts the FENS Forum in a European city. IBRO-PERC supports travel grants for researchers to attend. The next and 12th FENS Forum will be held in Glasgow, Scotland, from 11-15 July 2020.

Global Engagement Seed Grants

Grant Amount: Up to 5,000 EUR

IBRO-PERC awards global engagement seed grants to support neuroscience societies, groups and organisations in the Pan-European region that would like to conduct engagement, outreach, awareness and advocacy events and activities in their local areas. Up to €5,000 is awarded to each successful proposal. The events and activities should address the specific needs of neuroscience outreach in the country where they are being held. They can include public lectures, brain awareness fairs, conferences, educational symposia for policymakers, educators and the public, videos or multimedia products to increase awareness, etc. Please note that Global Engagement Seed Grants are NOT for research projects or fellowships.

The Brain Conferences

Grant Amount: 1,000 EUR

IBRO-PERC, The Brain Prize and FENS offer stipends of 1,000 EUR for international students and early career scientists who want to attend the Brain Conferences.

IBRO-PERC/FENS Joint NENS School Stipends

Grant Amount: 750 EUR

IBRO-PERC and FENS offer joint stipends to support MSc and PhD neuroscience students (European and non-European) to broaden their knowledge and acquire international experience by participating in short courses organised by the Network of European Neuroscience Schools (NENS).
