Trichy, also called Tiruchirapalli, is a city in the state of Tamil Nadu and the administrative headquarters of Tiruchirapalli District. It is positioned almost at the geographic centre of the state, being situated 322 kilometres south of
Chennai and 379 kilometres north of
Kanyakumari. There are a large number of energy equipment manufacturing units in and around the city which it why it is often referred to as the Energy equipment and fabrication capital of India.

Trichy is served extensively by the state government-owned TNSTC buses, and auto rickshaws. Both intercity services and local transport to suburban areas are provided by the two key bus termini of the city.
