It’s Lamy, which was known for quality ink pens long before EMRs. It’s a ball point, smooth as a Cross.

NSF Scoping Meetings On TMT Impacts Begin In Hilo. The first of four National Science Foundation in-person public scoping meetings planned for Hawaiʻi island was held on Tuesday evening. by Pulelehua in BigIsland

At no point has either side used “just because” as a genuine reason here. If you actually listen to what the natives are saying, I’m 100% positive you’d be embarrassed for writing that. The FACT that you honestly believe nobody practices is a moving testament to how little you actually understand this land and it’s people.

It is practiced in everything they do.

Whether or not you, personally, believe that land is sacred, or the religion is practiced, is irrelevant. The question isn’t whether they should move forward with the build. The question is whether that decision is even theirs to make. It’s not.

They’ve been holding these “scopes” for decades. One of the most resonant pieces of testimony was that the locals have BEEN giving input, as evidenced by court cases dating back to 2009. There were hearings in the exact same room this scope was held in, and that feedback was ignored then. The least they could have done was go back and read what was said. Either they didn’t, or they did and, again, are just not listening.

Yeah. There was a court recorder there (that needed to take a break every hour causing stoppage). It was clear to a lot of us that the whole thing was just an item on a checklist they knew needed to be ticked for any judge to consider allowing permits to be issued. Felt like the hosts were all there because they drew the short straws on who had to come face the natives.

I love that I’m getting downvoted 😂😂

Well… I should start by saying that I believe science is as close to any religion I’ll ever practice. I believe it exists to find universal truths, and I believe some of the most important truths - where we came from and why - will be answered by exploring the stars. Hell my kids are named after stars. That having been said…

It’s painful to witness what’s happening, because NSF and the telescope patent technology holders are JUST. NOT. LISTENING.

You can tell they’re not listening because they’re affording two minutes to people who have been fighting this for forty fkn years, in the exact same trauma-inducing ROOM the original hearings were held. They’re trying to explain searching for life in other worlds and understanding black holes to people who have been on homestead waiting lists their entire lives for the opportunity to live life on their own land, while the sciences get SACRED (that’s important) land for $1/yr. “Sacred” is important, because of the disconnect between both sides’ definition of that word. It can’t be proven in a court of science, but it’s something the people here will (and have) died for.

That disconnect stood out. It was super sad to be in the presence of.
