Union says nearly 100,000 workers joined Volkswagen strikes across Germany

Almost 100,000 workers joined walkouts at Volkswagen's German plants on Monday in protest at management plans to cut wages and even close sites at Europe's biggest carmaker, the IG Metall union said, threatening further industrial action. With two-hour strikes by workers on morning shifts and early walkouts on evening shifts, a total of 98,650 employees at nine plants across Germany took part in the industrial action, said the union on Tuesday.

Exxon operates 59 petrol stations in Singapore under its Esso brand, according to Esso's website. A sale would allow Exxon to raise cash to deploy in other areas of higher growth potential, the report said, adding that players in the energy industry and investment funds had shown preliminary interest in the disposal.

Fuel oil smuggling network rakes in $1 billion for Iran and its proxies

A sophisticated fuel oil smuggling network that some experts believe generates at least $1 billion a year for Iran and its proxies has flourished in Iraq since Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani took office in 2022, five sources with knowledge of the matter told Reuters. The operation exploits a government policy under which Iraq allocates fuel oil to asphalt plants at heavily subsidised prices and involves a network of companies, groups and individuals in Iraq, Iran and Gulf states, according to the five people and three Western intelligence reports, two from August this year and one which was undated.

Oil prices nudge higher ahead of OPEC+ meeting

LONDON (Reuters) -Oil prices climbed nearly 1% on Tuesday, as traders awaited the outcome of an OPEC+ meeting later this week. Brent crude futures rose 66 cents, or 0.92%, to $72.49 a barrel by 0909 GMT, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude climbed 63 cents, or 0.93%, to $68.73. OPEC+ is likely to extend its latest round of output cuts until the end of the first quarter at its Dec. 5 meeting, according to sources.

U.S. oil major Exxon Mobil and partners are continuing to negotiate with Guyana's government on the terms for developing a shallow-water oil block, an Exxon spokesperson said on Monday.
