Open access shouldn’t be a barrier, it should be a baseline. We’re proud to renew our partnership with Jisc for 2026–2027, continuing a model that’s redefining how research gets published. Since 2022, this agreement has: ✔ Removed APCs for researchers across dozens of UK institutions ✔ Enabled 700+ publications ✔ Made over half of UK-authored JMIR research APC-free in 2025 But the real impact goes beyond the numbers. As Dennis O'Brien, VP of Communications and Partnerships at JMIR Publications shared, this partnership is helping “pioneer a sustainable funding model for Open Access publishing which is now being replicated across the globe.” And that momentum matters, as Anna Vernon, Head of Research, Licensing at Jisc notes, it’s about being able to “remove barriers to open publishing for UK researchers, and ensure fair, sustainable access to OA opportunities across [Jisc’s] membership.” By replacing individual APCs with a flat, institutional model, we’re building a more equitable future for research, one where open access is the standard. Here’s to continuing that progress. Read more: https://lnkd.in/eeqr7BvQ Jisc Michael Byer Sarah Gilbert #OpenAccess #OpenScience #ScholarlyPublishing #ResearchEquity #DigitalHealth

Firefighters put their lives on the line every day. Their safety extends beyond the fireground, including how their health and safety data are handled. A new study published in the Journal of Medical Internet Research, from the University of Colorado Anschutz and John Hopkins University, examined privacy preferences of firefighters and fire service leadership regarding occupational health and safety data collected via digital tools. Key findings: ➡️ Firefighters prefer de-identified data and limited sharing. ➡️ Mental health information is considered highly sensitive. ➡️ Leaders are more concerned about data use and sharing than firefighters, highlighting potential tensions. ➡️ Clear communication about purpose, access, and outcomes is essential for trust and uptake. As we deploy wearables, mobile apps, and digital health platforms in high-risk workplaces, integrating privacy protections and transparent communication is critical.
