About us

The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) is the world's largest regional security organization. Its 57 participating States span the geographical area from Vancouver to Vladivostok. Born in the early 1970s as the Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe, it served as an important multilateral forum for dialogue between East and West during the Cold War. It was also instrumental in tackling the numerous security challenges that arose in Europe after the collapse of communism. Today, the OSCE, its institutions, and its 16 field operations are actively involved in a broad range of security- and stability-related activities including election monitoring, human rights, legislative reform, rule of law and media freedom, as well as combating human trafficking, terrorism and the smuggling of small arms and light weapons.

📢 We are looking for an Associate Communications Officer in a seconded position! Some stories shape how people see the world. At the OSCE, those stories are about security, cooperation, and real impact across countries and communities of the OSCE region. They need to be told by people who know how to listen, translate, and share them in a way that truly connects. We’re looking for an Associate Communications Officer (S) to help bring them to life. If you’re someone who sees the narrative behind the noise and knows how to turn it into something people care about, this might be your next step. 👇 📍 Vienna, Austria (Secretariat) Apply here: https://bit.ly/4rEcNrM Deadline: May 12, 2026

Explosive hazards continue to threaten lives in conflict-affected areas. They limit access to homes, land and essential services and put everyday activities at risk. On the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action, the OSCE supports efforts that reduce these dangers and help communities live more safely.

👥 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗺𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗿? 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁. Criminal networks are trafficking people with fake #tech job ads. Once the victims arrive, documents and telephones are confiscated, they're locked in office-like compounds and given daily quotas: "Hit your $5,000 quota or your family back home gets a visit. No excuses." #AI now amplifies their exploitation - making scams more believable and harder to detect. Tech-skilled victims generate millions for criminal networks, and at least 19 OSCE participating States and 5 Partners for Co-operation are affected, with their citizens trafficked into these criminal operations. When we arrest trafficking victims instead of dismantling networks, we're essentially helping these criminal organizations expand. But when we properly identify and protect victims, they can help law enforcement shut down entire networks that steal billions and exploit thousands. This fastest-growing form of human trafficking demands urgent action. Join us at the 26th OSCE Alliance Conference! Security starts with prevention. When young people lack access to opportunity, criminal networks exploit that gap. When we involve youth in prevention, it reduces recruitment, strengthens social cohesion, and addresses risk before it escalates to instability. It is one of the most important strategic investments in our long-term security. Learn more 👉 https://bit.ly/4aQvEuq

This hidden form of human trafficking is growing rapidly, yet law enforcement, policymakers, and security professionals are only beginning to recognize its scope and impact. While we arrest the visible "criminals," the real perpetrators, the traffickers, remain in the shadows, continuing to exploit vulnerable people and profit from their crimes. ⛓️💥 We need a paradigm shift. 📲 Who’s really behind that fake message or “too good to be true” job offer? Often, these messages are sent by victims of human trafficking forced into online scams and other illicit activities. When they’re discovered, they’re too often treated as criminals, while the people controlling them remain invisible, expanding their networks and putting our communities at risk. That’s why the 26th OSCE Alliance against Trafficking in Persons Conference is focusing on forced criminality to help: 🔎 close this security gap, 🤝 protect victims, ⚖️ and make sure the real perpetrators are held accountable. 🕊️ Dialogue in action: building trust across communities   This week, the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the Promotion of Dialogue and Confidence-Building, Dr. Serge Rumin, visited the OSCE Missions to Skopje and Pristina – highlighting how dialogue remains at the heart of cooperation, security, and lasting stability.   💬 “Meaningful dialogue is not abstract. Dialogue is built through sustained engagement between communities, institutions, and authorities.” — Dr. Serge Rumin   📍 Skopje Engagements with partners showcased how inclusive and continuous dialogue delivers real impact. From youth exchanges among political party representatives to national platforms like the Participatory Forum, the experience of North Macedonia demonstrates that dialogue works best when it is practical, inclusive, and sustained.   📍 Pristina The visit further emphasized dialogue as a driver of cooperation and security. Meetings with local leaders, partners, and initiatives such as the Dialogue Academy – bringing together young women from Pristina and Belgrade – highlighted how dialogue supports concrete solutions to shared challenges.   ✨ Key takeaway: Lasting stability starts with listening, cooperation, and trust.
