i don't think it's a good default. this basically means implementing tool search & code mode on each MCP server.
but clients like codex already have tool search & code mode that a/ work
Not quite, although I understand why people might think that.
Why we still need MCP servers and not just APIs:
• OAuth standardization: if you log into an MCP server on ChatGPT desktop you'll also be logged in on web and mobile because auth is standardized. Not to mention
MCPs should just be Skill files with API documentation, likely bundling a full-blown CLI tool or at least information on any CLI tools and methods for access.
