Anthropic Claude Sonnet 4.5 is in public preview for GitHub Copilot

Claude Sonnet 4.5, Anthropic’s most advanced model for coding and real-world agents, is now rolling out in GitHub Copilot to Copilot Pro, Pro+, Business, and Enterprise. From our early testing, the model brings major upgrades in tool orchestration, context editing, and domain-specific capabilities.

Availability in GitHub Copilot

Copilot Chat
Claude Sonnet 4.5 will be available for Copilot Pro, Pro+, Business, and Enterprise. You’ll be able to select the model in the Copilot Chat model picker from:

• Visual Studio Code in chat, ask, edit, and agent mode.
• github.com.
• GitHub Mobile in iOS and Android.

Copilot CLI
All users of Copilot Pro, Pro+, Business, and Enterprise will also be able to select Claude Sonnet 4.5 from the new model picker, available in the latest version of the Copilot CLI (v0.0.329).

To switch to Claude Sonnet 4.5, update to the latest version with npm install -g [@GitHub](https://github-grid.enterprise.slack.com/team/U01SS5FBV5Y)/copilot, then use the /model command.

Enabling access

For all use cases, rollout will be gradual, check back soon if you don’t see it yet.

Enterprise and Business plan administrators must enable the Claude Sonnet 4.5 policy in Copilot settings. Once enabled, users in that organization will have Claude Sonnet 4.5 available in the Copilot Chat model picker and Copilot CLI.

Copilot Free, Pro, and Pro+ users may also bring their own key in Visual Studio Code by selecting Manage Models from the picker, choosing Anthropic, and entering their API key when prompted.

Why can't I still see the Claude Sonnet 4.5 model? I am a Pro subscriber.

I'm Pro+ user, and I also cant find Claude Sonnet 4.5 - neither in VS Code nor in VS Code Insiders

@conchs6x @abakumov-v we're aware of this and looking into a fix. In the interim, you can go to github.com/settings/copilot and enable sonnet 4.5 that way.

The gradual rollout means if you don't see it immediately, check back in the coming days. This looks like a substantial upgrade to the Copilot experience, particularly for complex coding tasks and enterprise workflows.
