What was your win this week?!

Diverse personal and career highlights shared

๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿ‘‹
Looking back on your week -- what was something you're proud of?
All wins count -- big or small ๐ŸŽ‰

Examples of 'wins' include:

  • Getting a promotion!
  • Starting a new project
  • Fixing a tricky bug
  • Made coffee at home instead of spending too much at the coffee shop (twice) โ˜•

Happy Friday!

Snow white leans under a large coffee dispenser and guzzles it straight from the spout.

My weekly win: branching out from my usual technical articles to write something a bit more personal. โœ๏ธ

โ€‹Since sharing the news of my job offer, I wanted to document the actual "how." I put together a piece on landing a role right now without the standard LeetCode routine, and how being active on DEV gave me the edge I needed.

meow.hair

My happiest achievement this week
is finishing the development
of meow.hair for Polish cats
I made it very fast and secure
one hundred percent and completely free
from any ads or tracking
with very special attention
to screen reader users experience
and people with disabilities
Seeing the code work with such
efficiency and elegance is itself
a great win for me
Thank you everyone!
And what about your wins? ๐Ÿ˜

Produced this video on implementing infinite scrolling in React. It touched many key React mental models. Very proud to be able to now talk on the camera, in a calm, precise and clear manner without much editing. :)

I built color-gradient bar charts, sparklines, and trend arrows directly into the terminal.

One command:

devpub stats --graph

My win - doing a little investigation, and confirming that there is either:

  • Something wrong with the dev.to search function
  • Some mechanism in dev.to for deliberately hiding things from search

I confirmed this by searching for the headings of each of my posts. The most recent two do not show up ANYWHERE on search results (and never appeared anywhere except to my followers, it seems).

Is there a bug in search @jess ?

  • Developed better meal planning and home cooking habits throughout the week.๐Ÿฅฃ

Love these good ol' dev discussions. Recently, i have been thinking about creating a new genre of discussions: "What were your failures this week?" or something along this line. tbh, success and failure is a man made up construct. It is 100% subjective and varies from person to another. I don't like talk about it sometimes.

I think this new genre will allow us devs to reflect on our own failure in an open collective inclusive way and understand what went wrong and of course help each other to achieve a goal etc.

My win for this week was welding for a new client in the hood! My welding biz has been buzzin' lately. I will share photos about my welding later on once i get my hands on my phone. fyi, I learned welding during college days, but didn't know why we were learning it back then while studying engineering. Now in the age of AI, I 100% understand. I will share my thoughts on the matter in a separate post.

Edit: For my own safety, privacy reasons and cz of the war here in lebanon, i decided to remove the pic. My humble mossad agents are trying to know my exact location. bye!

Have a nice weekend, everyone!
