Add an email address to your domain name

Last reviewed on August 20, 2026

You can add a custom email address to your domain name on WordPress.com with Professional Email, Google Workspace, or free email forwarding. This guide covers how to create an email address, choose a provider, and manage an existing email subscription.

Create an email address

A custom email address uses your domain name after the @ symbol. For example, if your domain is yourgroovydomain.com, you can create email addresses like info@yourgroovydomain.com and contact@yourgroovydomain.com.

To create a custom email address for any domain name you have registered, transferred, or connected to WordPress.com, follow these steps:

  1. Visit your Hosting Dashboard.
  2. On the left side, select Emails.
  3. Click the “Add mailbox” button in the upper right corner:
The add mailbox button is highlighted in the upper right corner.
  1. Choose which of your domains you wish to add an email address to:
A dropdown list of domains to choose from, plus a search box.
  1. Choose between Professional Email and Google Workspace for your domain.

💡

If you don’t see the Emails option in your Hosting Dashboard, you can visit our Site Profiler to make sure your domain name is hosted with WordPress.com.

Email requires a domain name that’s registered or connected to WordPress.com. The plan you need depends on which option you choose:

  • A domain name registered with or transferred to WordPress.com can use email with no paid hosting plan required.
  • Connecting a domain name registered with another provider requires a paid plan—you can’t connect an external domain name on a free site.

Adding email to your domain name doesn’t require setting it as your site’s primary address.

Select an email provider

You can use any email provider with your domain. WordPress.com offers Professional Email and Google Workspace (which includes Gmail). Email is not included with your WordPress.com plan—visit the Emails page to view pricing in your currency.

📌

Only one email provider can be active on your domain at a time. Multiple email services on the same domain will not work.

Manage your email

To manage an existing email subscription, follow the guide for your email service. These cover billing, cancellation, and adding or removing mailboxes:
