TGS 09: Tekken 6 Hands-on

For a while now, we've known that Tekken 6 was coming to the PSP and promised most of the cool stuff that the consoles were getting, but the news was pretty sparse after that announcement. Today, with TGS in full swing, we know something else.

TGS 09: Tatsunoko vs. Capcom Hands-on

Just when we all thought Capcom's off-the-wall awesome fighter Tatsunoko vs. Capcom for Wii couldn't get any better, the dev team decides that the cast of Ryu, Chun Li, Mega Man, Roll, Morrigan, Viewtiful Joe, and oh so many others weren't enough of a slant on Capcom's side, and decided to spice things up a bit with a big ol serving of Frank West.

TGS 09: Blue Dragon Returns to DS

First there was Blue Dragon on Xbox 360, a traditional Japanese role-playing game. Then came Blue Dragon Plus on the Nintendo DS, which was a real-time strategy game with similarities to Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings. The third Blue Dragon game is playable here on the Tokyo Game Show floor and changes up the gameplay again. This time around it's an action RPG like Diablo with co-op play for up to four players.

TGS 09: Resident Evil Darkside Chronicles Hands-on

It's no secret that after E3 2009 I wasn't too impressed with Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles. The game's visuals didn't seem up to snuff, the shaky cam was pretty unbearable at times, and while the game's light gun roots (Umbrella Chronicles) was a blast, it seemed as though its sequel just wasn't coming together. After a brief additional hands-on with the game a month or so later I was feeling slightly more optimistic on the game, but there still wasn't that single level or defining moment that me totally engaged in the game.

Game Scoop! Podcast: TGS 09 Edition

This week Daemon Hatfield, Greg Miller, and Mark Bozon are in Japan for the Tokyo Game Show. This special edition of Game Scoop! was recorded on Wednesday, September 23, before the show began. So there wasn't a lot of game news to discuss, yet, except for EA's pre-TGS event that revealed the biggest boobs ever seen in games. But there was plenty of monkey business to report.

TGS 09: Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Hands-on

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker might be better than sex. Seriously, I know that a lot of us IGN editors catch flack for hyping a game too much, but I just played four missions of the game, watched a bunch of cutscenes, and can't wipe the grin off of my face.

TGS 09: Alan Wake on the Run

Microsoft and development studio Remedy trotted out a new section of Alan Wake for this year's Tokyo Game Show. Only shown behind closed doors, the new area is still in the midst of production and had a few technical hiccups that are still being worked out. Regardless, it got the job done in keeping me excited for this action thriller that is on tap for Spring of 2010. The scene shown today gave us a look at what happens in Alan Wake when you don't have a flashlight handy. The short answer is this: you run.

TGS 09: Deep in Assassin's Creed II

Confession time: I haven't been very excited for Assassin's Creed II. I never got around to playing the first one and nothing I had seen or read about the sequel was enough to steal some of my attention away from other holiday releases like DJ Hero, Brutal Legend, and Modern Warfare 2. But that changed today after spending some quality time with Assassin's Creed II at TGS. It's a very pretty game and assassinating fools is a pleasure. From the moment I climbed to the top of a bell tower, gazed out over a beautiful ocean, then leaped off to bury my knives in two guards at once, I was hooked.

At the Tokyo Game Show this week, the publisher unveiled a new trailer for its on-rails shooter depicting a brand new stage set not in darkness, but in the bloom-saturated daylight of a South American village.
