Founded by Bruno Bonnell, Christophe Sapet and Thomas Schmider in 1983, Infogrames is one of the largest entertainment software companies in the world. The company currently develops and distributes computer and videogames for all consoles and personal computer platforms. Infogrames is known for its long list of well-known licenses spanning cars, movies, cartoons, athletes, sports leagues, and more.

Some of the company's key licenses include Warner Bros. Looney Tunes, Nickelodeon's Blue's Clues, AM General Hummer, Harley-Davidson, Major League Baseball, and National Football League. Franchises include Alone In The Dark, Test Drive, Driver, Deer Hunter, Oddworld, Unreal, and V-Rally. The company is also known for its line of children's entertainment software from Humongous Entertainment, as well as its successful Macintosh publishing label, MacSoft. The company has internal development teams comprised of over 1000 people and has worked together with outside studios like Eden, Epic Games, Appeal, Darkworks, Paradigm, Pitbull Syndicate, Reflections, and more.

Headquartered in Lyon, France, Infogrames has offices in dozens of countries around the world and over the past year has gained a presence in the North American market as well. Subsequent to the close of the fiscal year on June 30, 1999, the company completed a transaction to acquire a 70% equity interest in GT Interactive Software (now known as Infogrames, Inc.).

In 2003, Infogrames officially changed the name of its business operations to Atari, the well-known brand name it had acquired some years previous. Infogrames Entertainment is still the international holding company for Atari operations, but game productions by the company are now released under the Atari corporate brand.
